Hi everyone,

I've just found this website - looks great. I'm over in the UK and am returning to triathlon after nearly 10 years away from the sport, and it's grown so much which is fantastic. I have my goal set on Harvestmoon Half Ironman, Aurora CO 12 September- anyone else on the forum doing it? I'm combining it with Boulder marathon on Sept 20, that's my main vacation this year...be great to think some of you might be doing it and I could come say hello at the race.

Does anyone recommend a training plan? I've just bought the Triathlete's Training Bible so will look through that, I know the 1st edition was very useful and the 3rd edition is updated.

It's tough getting back into the sport - so many hours and now that my body's 10 years older I'm learning more niggles and recovery time is definitely alot slower. But great to be back and really looking forward to the life it brings with it - good luck to you all and looking forward to reading more about people's experiences and recommendations generally.

I'm not doing either of those, but sounds like an awesome trip! Welcome to trifuel and back to tri :)

Thanks for you comments, and welcoming me to the site! The events aren't a combination I've ever done before but just thought why not make it a bit more of a challenge...although I went out on my road bike for the first time in 18 months this morning, did a slow 33 mile and could only think hmm, I need to do 56 and then still feel fresh enough to run 13m...loads of work but I'm always up for a challenge!

Hope you all have a great training day.

Not everyone thinks it's fantastic :) Such growth makes it (nearly) impossible to get into A-races. Anyway, your Half in 12 Sept and marathon on 20 Sept sounds like a cool vacation. Something I'd try. That's such an unusual combination that my starting point would be to layer two plans: I'd think about taking a 70.3 tri plan, stripping out the run, and inserting a beginner marathon program in its place. So you'd keep the 70.3 tri swim and bike plan as is, and you'd simultaneously do a beginner, run/walk Galloway-style marathon plan.

Hey TriSooner, I haven't actually tried to enter many races yet so haven't experienced the new numbres involved with the sport - I hadn't thought of that as payoff! I've got an offroad marathon in 2 weeks so have been doing some long training for that but need to really pick up my biking - I'm slowly getting my bike back in order. I don't honestly know why I set myself this challenge but I've always done slightly odd things - really looking forward to it and the idea of the holiday with it will be fab. I'm hearing about the bears in the Rockies though and having to be very careful...in England all I need to worry about is a grass snake which will shoot off in the opposite direction when hearing anyone coming...

Thanks for your tips though about the training for the 2 events.
