I just spoke with my brother not 2 seconds ago and he passed the news. My heart goes out to his family, A wife and five children. Steve was a fellow Bend, OR resident and I often saw him around town and at the events. A good man who will be missed in our local community as well as the Triathlon community at large.

Steve Larsen was one of my favorite pro triathletes. It amazed me that he could balance having such a big family, business, and still be competitive at the pro level! He will be greatly missed! Just goes to show that none of us knows how long we have on this earth. Think I'll go home and hug the wife and kids and thank God for another day with them.

Very sad -- and a reminder to make sure our loved ones know how much they mean.

I have heard nothing but good things about Steve and his contributions to the triworld, including how great of a role model he is for those of us balancing life, family, work, tri, etc.

Sad news indeed. I just contacted him via email last week re: compression calf guards, after reading his article here and on worldtri. Hard to believe someone I recently communicated with is no longer here. Eerie to see his name still in my inbox. I will keep it.

Great athlete, businessman, and more importantly family man. Makes you stop and realize just how fragile life really is. Reminds me to live everyday to its fullest b/c you never know what tomorrow will bring.

The endurance sport community is still reeling from the untimely passing of one of its favorite athletes, Steve Larsen. Rarely is death an expected occurrence, but it's even less so when you consider Steve's young age (39) and his lifelong athleticism and good health. Despite his professional results across cycling and triathlon and his passion for his businesses (WorldTri.com and Steve Larsen Properties) his life revolved around his wife, Carrie, and their five young kids. A memorial fund has been started for the Larsen family. Checks can be made to the Steve Larsen Memorial Fund and sent to the address below.

Wow! He died very young.

I am only a few years older than him. YIKES!!
