What counts as close?
Ironman Arizona is in Nov, but full for 2009 (and also about a 6-7 hour drive). It's the only "Ironman" branded one.
I know that Vineman (Aug 1st) still has some spots available -- it is by San Francisco so about 6-8 hour drive from LA (based on where in LA you are and how you drive).
Or there is Silverman if you like climbing - Nov 8 at Lake Mead (by Las Vegas) - so about a 4 (or 10 if traffic sucks) hour drive from LA. That still has spots as well.

silverchair...based on your previous posts about trying to plan impromptu IM's across Australia, and from what I've read on each of the races Kylie mentioned...I'd say Silverman would be right up your alley. ;)

I am not familiar with the US as i have never been there.
I am looking to do a IM in the US between 15JUL-30NOV09 but it has to be in close distance to LA.
Any sugguestions?
