I am new at Tri and would like some input. I am 5'11 and a buddy of mine is getting rid of a brand new Guru Trilite that measures 55cm. Full Ultegra, Carbon Forks, seat post, aero bars just about everything you need. He is going to Iraq and has only ridden the bike a couple of times. He is offering a great deal for it. I currently ride a 56cm Specialized Elite and I have had some people say it is to small and others say it fits perfect. He is leaving in a couple of days. Anyone out there who knows a little about fitting and would you think this would be a good buy. Thanks for the input.

I'm 5'11" and ride 57 to 58 depending on the frame, so unless Guru runs large I'm guessing it'll be too small. You check around at a shop that might carry them and see what they'd put you on, but don't rush into a bike purchase that might not be best for your frame.

I'd agree here, I'm only 5'7" on a good day, and ride a 54. So, my input is the same sounds like it would be too small even if the Guru frames run big.

Thanks for the input. I talked to my friend and he had it measured it was at 56cm not the 55cm. So a little closer. he is coming through town tomorrow I am going to try it on for the first time. How does a 56cm sound? if it is a little small is there a way to make it fit?

I am 6'0" and I actually ride a 56 on a road bike and a 54 on a tri. I have a longer torso but I would not say that I have short legs. I was actually fitted professionally about 2 months ago becasue I wanted to purchase another tri bike but it fell through. After my fitting, I have never felt more comfortable in a bike. SO I guess it depends on the geo. of the bike, your frame (body make-up) and how it feels. I will tell you though, DON"T buy this bike just becasue it is a good deal! Nothing worse than a bike that does not fit correctly! I had knee problems last year becasue of improper fit. I thought it was pushing to big of a gear but I was incorrect. I was also told that more important than the size is the top tube length. The guy that fitted me explained that you can play with seat tube height more than you can top tube length. Headsets are only so long, you can buy a longer saddle stem.

Hope this helps,

I once checked out this site and is the only place around where you can learn how to measure yourself.

They sale different brands of bikes but the meassuring tool is great.
Maybe Tribro could check it out and see if we could have such a thing here at trifuel.

Too small, don't do it, cause you'll regret it. My first road biek BARELY fit me (it was 56cm, me 6'1) even with the longer stem. I never felt comfortable on it during longer rides. I also, got it at a killer deal, but in hindsight, I would def. hold out.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
