Wetsuit advice

So I had a bit of an issue at my first race of the season this past Sunday: my wetsuit was tight to the point of severely constricting my breathing. I used it last year and had a similar issue the first time I wore it, but it seemed to stretch out and I could breathe normally after that.

Did my wetsuit shrink back down over the winter? I don't have any open water to work out in to stretch it back out and I'd prefer to have this taken care of before my next race in another week; any suggestions?

Put it on in the shower or bath and flop around a bit. Or just fill up the tub and submerge for a few minutes. Should loosen right up.

That's happened to me before after sitting in the closet for two years. Wish I had known it could be loosened up.

Emilio De Soto, had a post about that on ST at some point, i'm too lazy to look for it right now.
Basically he said the suit dries out while hanging in your closet for the whole winter. If you just take it out of the closet and put it on for your first race for the first time, it will be tight or it might even rip.
A week or 2 before your first race put it in the tub full of water and let is sit there for some time. Believe it or not neoprene does soak up some water and holds it in for some time, it will allow it to expend and stretch and gain back that elasticity.
So hopefully if it's only the suit that shrunk you should be fine, but if there are other factors involved like tri-ac mentioned then....
what are you gonna do.... :)

OK, half the blame is on me for lifting so much, my chest is larger than it was last year (my waistline is actually smaller). I'll give the soak a shot for next weekend and see what comes of it.

If it doesn't work, I'll have a lightly used wetsuit for sale to help pay for the new one ;-)
