polar HRM problems
I have been having little weird issues with mine. It was giving me miss readings on my HR and when I was riding my bike it stopped reading my cadance then my speed. It turns out that it was just the battery going dead. I do have a little word to the wise. You can change the battery in your watch by yourself but it cost me $300 (I went swimming with it and got water in it, had to buy a new one). It is worth it to send it in and have it done by someone who can do it right.
When I had problems like that I had the battery changed. Fixed the issues. Depending on where you live there may be an authorized repair place near you. Their web site lists places, and if there isn't one, you can send it to them to change. Luckily we had a place right in my town so I just went over and had them do it for me.
A few times, I've had the opposite problem: I start out and my HR is 240 or higher. Only after a few minutes it settles to the right reading. It happens even with a new battery. Does anyone know about this problem?

i've had this on my bike or on windy days where some kind of interference is created. my shirt fluttering? i dunno what it is, but it's consistent. if i wear a thick enough shirt or jacket, it doesn't happen
[edit: this suggestion is directed at the OP]
if the strap is a wearlink, have you cleaned the contacts recently? sometimes you can get salt, dirt, schmutz, etc built up on the contacts and they give inconsistent readings...use some rubbing alcohol and a qtip and clean them out
otoh, it may be battery time for both strap and watch, too
A "friend" of mine, it totally wasn't me, had a similar issue. He realized that the computer was was displaying HR as a % of max, not the BPM. It certainly wasn't me, because I would have felt silly. :)
Oh, and this "friend" put a very similar post on TriFuel asking the same question as you. So, no worries. I figured out that on my CS100, I mean my "friend's", I had to disable the workout zone function and it displayed BPM.
Hi,
Sounds like the above poster hit the nail right on the head - HR set to display in %.

So this recently happened and i'm really mad because usually polar products have worked well for me. It started out that it read my HR at a really low number that i know isnt my resting HR. Then i realized that the number was cut in half. I know this because there is a heart on the watch that flashes for each heartbeat it receives, and it was receiving my heartbeat perfectly, but the display showed my HR cut in half. Anyone know how to fix this?
