Anybody tried out the new Gu Roctane? I've just started using on my long runs, 16+ miles, and I think its has made a real difference. My legs seem to feel a lot stronger in the later miles but I'm not sure if this is the Roctane or the effect of training and me being excited about trying a new product. I'm trying it out under race conditions at the OKC Marathon this weekend so hopefully I'll have a better idea after that. Thanks for the thoughts and input.

I used it and Gatorade High
I used it and Gatorade High Endurance my energy sources for my first HIM last summer, and it worked fine. I finished a half hour ahead of my targeted time, but I'm skeptical that my gel brand choice had much to do with it.
What makes it the gel you should use is the fact that you have used it in training, and you haven't had problems with it.
Love them. I credit them
Love them. I credit them for saving my last marathon.
Leading up to my marathon I tried a different nutrition on every long run. First 3 were gels (Hammer, GU, PowerBar) then I tried PowerBar Gel Blast (like Clif Shot Blocks), and finally Sports Beans. Everything upset my stomach. 5 products over 2+ months, and I was more worried about my nutrition than anything else. 4 days before the race I saw Roctane for the first time, went to GU's website and read about it. The next day I bought 4 and said a prayer. Day of the marathon I had no problems with the gels.
It sucks they are twice as expensive as normal gels. Monday I ordered a box of Roctane, and another box of normal gels. I'll use the Roctane in races and a few intense and long training days, but I'm too cheap to use them for each workout over 2 hours.
My first thought was
My first thought was "Seriously? It's called Roctane? May as well just use Powerthirst!" For those who don't know it's this stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRuNxHqwazs
I do think it made a big difference for me. That's not to say you couldn't use a sports drink with the amino acids and other things that are in there to accomplish the same thing but it does a good job.
Tried it on some long, hot,
Tried it on some long, hot, humid rides. Worked fine, but I didn't notice any added benefit w/regards to longevity or recovery. It was certainly tolerable on the fly, which is the real measure of a gel IMO. With gels, if you train with them and you can process them effectively when active, then you're getting your money's worth.
I just picked some up to try
I just picked some up to try this weekend on long workout. So far, GU in general works best for me so I'm interested to see if Roctane any better or not.
