Specialized Transition

Anyone out there have any thoughts/experience with a 2006 Specialized Transition S-Works bike? I have been competing on a regular road bike but my times are getting to the point where I think I will benefit from a tri bike. I have the option to pick this one up for a VERY good price, much lower then new bikes with lower quality components.

Have you ridden the bike? The most important thing with a tri bike is how it fits you.

I rode it and it feels great. I've been fitted so I'm pretty comfortable with what I need size wise. With the frame being a couple of year old I'm trying to decide whether to go with what was a top of the line a few years ago or something more basic that it new.

you'll see alot of different opinions here. If money does not matter (which is not common nowadays) i would get a new transition. However, if money is tight then a used bike could be the way to go. The real security you get with a brand new bike is a manufacturer warranty, when with a used bike you wont get that.

Does the 2006 Transition S-Works have a carbon frame? All the new Transitions are carbon. I almost bought one from my LBS for $2400.

The 2006 frame is not carbon, its the year before they made the switch to carbon frames. Unfortunately money does matter somewhat. I can pick up this bike for $1400 with Dura Ace components and carbon Spinergy wheels. Obviously I can't get anything new in that price range and although I'm will to pay up to $2500, the bike I would get new for that amount I'm not sure would be as good. That's why I was solicting opinions.
