So i rode 95miles yesterday in a significant headwind...tough ride.
My normal training rides are 40-50.

I have soreness in the soft tissue behind my knees. My knees do not ache and my quads, hamstrings, calves are all fine.

Any one experience this? Any ideas as to cause or prevention?

unfortunately, you possibly have what i have, which is a hamstring strain. it's hard to make a diagnosis without a physical examination (and in fact it is malpractice to do so), but it sounds like it. i would see your dr, and if it is that, start physical therapy. hamstring strains can take a while to heal, but just mean dialing back a bit. hope that helps.

JChapATX:

How is your bike fit? It sounds like your seat may be too high. Is that possible?

do you mean behind your knee cap like the meniscus or like the bend in the knee? i am the poster child for knee problems. since i've gotten into tri's it's mild compared to my past which involved pins and multiple surgeries in both knees and even a recent mcl tear and knee joint crack. not fun.

Two weeks ago I raised my bike seat about an inch and a half - it "felt" too low - and I've noticed a tightness at the back of my left knee where it bends. It's not behiind the kneecap - basically its above the top of my calf. It doesnt really hurt (much) but is tight.

I first figured my legs just needed to get used to riding with a higher seat, but after 3-4 short rides - it's still tight.

Should I drop my seat? Yes, I should probably take my bike to LBS for a "proper" fitting. I know it's the right size, but maybe seatheight is out of whack.

From wikipedia - The popliteal fossa is a space or shallow depression located at the back of the knee-joint. The bones of the popliteal fossa are the femur and the tibia. Colloquially, it is referred to as a "knee pit."

The area of my pain the between the two cord like tendons on back of knee - and a little lower towards the calf.

Thanks in advance.

i lowered my seat after the OP. It fixed the problem with my knee pit.
lower your seat back to where it was. you'll probably feel better.
