Did my LTHR drop?

sometimes environmental conditions elevate your HR
also, if you are better trained in one discipline vs another, the HR % correlation may not carry between disciplines
my advice: watch and log your HR, but don't let it determine your pace

the beauty of running is that you can use paces as well as heart rate. I agree with tri-ac (are you a physiologist, tri-ac? You seem right smart-like!) that other things may be going on. Was your testing done indoors? I would use a balance between pacing, RPE, and HR as a way to determine if you are working at an appropriate pace. Good luck!

Some quick background. Last year was my first season and I did a few sprint duathlons with my peak race of a half marathon in the fall. At the start of the season I did a field test and found my LTHR to be 177. Towards the end of the season I did a lab vo2 test and got an LTHR of 181.
Fast forward to this year my peak race is an Olympic distance duathlon. My bike LT (174) feels correct, but when I do a training run the 181 HR zones feel too high; an example is that I must run 5 seconds or more faster than my 10k race pace in order to even hit low zone 4.
I've done 2 10k's so far this year and for both my middle miles had a 177 avg HR. So my question is could my LTHR have decreased? And if so what does this mean?
Sorry for the giant wall of information; thanks.
