I am training for my first Triathlon and have no idea what to wear. It's a sprint, so im really not sure. Basically any help here will be nice. Thanks!

I see you've met Chris...

Seriously though, for a sprint you probably won't need a wetsuit unless the water is really cold. If you do then look into renting for your first tri's before spending the cash on a good suit.

To tell you the truth the only stuff you absolutely need are:
1. helmet
2. goggles
3. running shoes

maybe some sunglasses, hat, sun screen

If you want to get all geared up, look into some tri shorts and jerseys. They have less bike padding in the rear so you don't look like you're wearing a diaper after the swim, and the drag is pretty limited. Brands to look at, TYR, De Soto, Zoot.

One of the best parts about being a triathlete is running in public wearing a pair of Speedos and racing flats with big black magic marker numbers scribbled all over your appendages. Don't forget your Oakleys!

Come on man, your still wearing the SPEEDO! If that's the case, you forgot to mention the sevre case of saddle rash to go with the magic marker and Oakleys.

Ya see, back in the day we put a glob of Body Glide under the nose of our seats. This way we could reach in and apply some while riding to avoid the rub and rash. No doubt it makes you faster 'cause your'e trying to get off that dang bike as fast as you can.

Oh that is just gross! Poor form for posting such a non-tri related picture and I would hope you respect our sport a little more than that.

Sorry if I offended :( I thought it was pretty funny. I do take this sport very seriously. As one of the older members, I for one know the importance of training and wellbeing - both physically and mentally. But if we loose our sense of humor somewhere along the way...........

No offense taken, just understand that there are youngsters who go to the site. I'd hate for them to be turned off by something as benign as that. Oh, and yeah, I did laugh too!

Man, I don't care who you are that was some funny garbage! I sure as heck don't think I will be on that fashion trend!
I am comfortable in running in my cutoff jean shorts!
To get back to the main question though, my first tri, I wore a pair of compression shorts. They were great for the swim, ok for the bike (no chaffing but no padding either), and great for the run (plus they dried pretty quickly). I think I wore like a wife beater or something similar for a tee, some running shoes and a cheap pair of shades (of course a helmet also). A suggestion for t-1, if you plan on not wearing socks, bring a bucket and put some H2o in it before the race to wash the sand or gravel of your feet before wearing your shoes. Not every race has the guy (or girl) spraying your feet when you get out of the water.

for my first tri i just wore some basketball shorts and spandex underneath. it worked out great and as far as the rest i just wore a t shirt. you could say i kept it pretty simple! i didnt do the foot in the water thing but its what works for you best.

Check and see if it's a jersey required race. If not, no top. I highly recommend some tri shorts. Pearl Izumis tri short arent too bad at $45.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
