Another "study" regarding Triathlon Deaths
Looks like the same study as addressed in the two other threads...just some different quotes this time. Such a small death rate per million. I wonder if driving an automobile is higher or lower???
Just keep spinning....spinning, spinning....uh, do I know you?

Im currently working on a study about 'walking with scissors' and 'eating suckers with the paper handles' becuase Im pretty sure you can die from doing those too =p
Here's your answer: http://www.nsc.org/research/odds.aspx
Morbid, yet hilarious when you consider all the drama around the "killer triathlon" press this week.
According to this research (National Safety Council), you have a 1 in 300,000 of dying from a fall involving a bed, chair or other furniture.
You have a 1 in 861,000 chance of drowning or falling in a bathtub. But here's the thing. Most people take a bath or shower everyday, but do only one or two tri's in a life time. Your lifetime odds of dying in the bathtub: 1 in 11,000.
Clearly, you are safer skipping the daily shower and doing the tri! (although you would be very stinky).

too funny... I guess we have a higher shower risk too as many of us take two or more!

OMG not again!LOL
I was thinking about petitioning my local senator to get a government inquiry into why us triathletes die at such a high rate, since more than double the number of triathletes have died last year than the recent salmenella outbreak regarding peanuts. Over 400 people became sick eating the tainined peanuts, but us triathletes have a higher rate of sickness, ranging from GI problems, road rash and most likely heat related issues.
Surely this is such a high priority issue that the govenrment needs to address it.....

Please don't give them ONE MORE REASON to spend my money!

For those of us who shower right after a race at the venue...we have no chance of survival!

How about inquiring into retardation while you're at it.
Greatness is only achieved by those who perpetually raise the expectations of themselves to the point where it ruins their life.
PEOPLE!!! I work for a fairly large police department, and trust me..... You have a better chance of dying from a major paper cut injury than from a triathlon... The more you train, the less chance you have of dying, use it as motivation.
It seems like the cause of tri-related death is an undetected heart defect or heart disease triggered by intense physical activty. I think it's silly to focus on "triathlon" as a reason people die. You might be digging a hole in your backyard and the strain might trigger the same result. The real message isn't to stop doing strenuous physical activity but to consult a physician especially if you have family history pointing to cardiac problems.
I wonder how many lives triathlon has saved through its role in adopting a healthy lifestyle. I guess it's impossible to know how many people would've dropped dead (heart attack, pulmonary failure, type 2 diabetes, etc.) had they not taken up triathlon and remained sedentary. I'd imagine, however, that it is several times the number of accidental triathlon deaths.

I think you might be onto something. I'm going to go live in a padded room. Having fun is over rated.

So you just have to do more tri's. Just put shampoo in your hair and soap up before you start. Rinse during the swim ;-)

Bingo! Makes my life so much easier. Now I'll NEVER die!
The management at the gym may have some issues with all the shampoo in the pool, but that's his problem, right?

I've had family emailing this article to me all day telling me to get out of triathlons.
Read on.

I know that there have been past discussions on this topic before, so I'll leave it at that.
