Garmin just announced a new upgrade to the 305. The 310XT.

The bonus is that it is waterproof, let me say that again, waterproof to 50 meters. So you can wear it swimming. Waaaahhoooooo.

310XT

I believe it is retailing at $345 or there abouts.

Plus it has like 15-20 hours of battery time...

but the HRM won't work while in the water.

I was told that the 305 was okay to wear in the water as long as you didnt go over a 1/2 hour.So i tried it for my latest sprint tri and no problems!:) But i will def. need to save up for this new one or wait until the price goes down a bit!:)

Very cool! one reason I have stayed away from the garmin (besides the crappy battery life) is not being able to swim with it and go from start to finish in a race. This will be mine :)

Just FYI, whoever told you that was wrong and you were lucky. The 30 min and depth limits on the watch are rated at that for accidental water exposure -- like a bit of rain, or dropping it in a puddle. The forces applied by the water when swimming are outside that spec, and I believe the manual actually says "NO SWIMMING" as one of the guidelines.

That said, it will be fun to see this one come out. I like that it looks to have the same starting price as the other units. Perhaps I should thank the husband for killing 2 of our 301s (well, one he swam with, one we are not sure what happened but as it was currently for his use I blame it on him even though I had last touched it)...

It's cool and I want it,
i wish it would cost less and wish they would trade it for 305 model. In this economy, if someone has a good working sports watch, i'm guessing it would be hard to justify spending another $345 on a watch unless it makes you go faster, maybe by giving you small electric shocks to keep your muscle fibers moving :)

But it does look much better then previous one, and to all existing features, add waterproof....
did i already mention that i want it

Guess i'm pushing my luck, but i've done 2 halfs with my 305. I took the 1 meter waterproof literally and went for it.
