I'm out for a year or more due to a torn rotator cuff & labrum. Long enough that I sold my tri bike, and I'm NOT looking forward to surgery (again). I'm 8 weeks out from my A race and my first HIM (is that a tear welling?). You guys with down time that can be measured in days and weeks can all smile and be grateful that it's only a .....

Man I'm sorry. I've been out 4+ months with a bum knee and been having to go to Phys Therapy. I raced 3 OLY's and a HIM last year and this season I might do a short du and a sprint. I love racing and was really looking forward to this being a breakout year, but so much for that. Mentally its been really hard not training. If I had any advice, it relates to that. Prepare yourself for that gap that training will leave you with. Its very different when all of a sudden you have more time on your hands. I should have taken better advantage of it by doing something new or something, but didn't cause I was in a funk from the injury. It sucks.

I'm going on my 8th week of injury....I have no idea how long I won't be able to run. I won't be able to compete in a HIM I've been training and looking forward to for the last 3 months. I HATE injuries.

kitkat, you're still out? i hope it's not too much longer. and guys with lower limb injuries, i'll take a bad shoulder any day, at least i'm still mostly functional, and can run and bike with my training buddies.

caeagle16 - perhaps we could make a relay team ;-)

I'm so sorry! Hubby tore his rotator in early Feb and is still on the fence about surgery. But regardless, it has really messed up his training this early season. I hope for a very quick and pain-free recovery for you!

Haha, yeah, I'd be up for a relay. I've actually never done one before, so I'm probably gonna do that some this year as a way to stay in touch with racing. Its not the whole package, but its something I guess...

Sucks to hear that. I'm just now getting back into running after recovering from a knee injury last Aug/Sep which forced me out of a 70.3. I wouldn't wish an injury on anyone. It will teach you patience and in the end I've learned a lot about my knee and how to avoid injury in the future. Good luck with surgery and hopefully recovery goes well.

Got my Xray results back today - "healing" fractured fibula. The doc said she didn't know how I walked the last 3 miles back after I collapsed on my leg. High pain tolerance is good for racing but BAD for injuries.
Looks like this injury usually take 2-6 months to fully recover from. Thankfully I'm in a "healing" phase and am already 2 months in, let's hope it's sooner then later.
I'm referred to a clinic that specializes in fractures next week.

Here's a more "post-rant" one, just to remind you that recovery happens!!

Tore my hamstring hurdling in January the same week I came back early to college from winter break specifically so I could train for track. A month and a half later, I was finally improving, but slipped on some ice and reinjured it. Shortly thereafter I had to quit track because my coach was pushing me to try and run injured. In mid-March, I started running 1 day, off 2, and got myself loose again and convinced myself it was healed, and starting April 1st, I started training again (this time for tris). During my injured period I definitely did the self-loathing, depression, unmotivated cycles (and if it weren't for my wonderful girlfriend who knows if I'd still be wallowing in self pity). But now, I'm on a training schedule again, starting to see some improvement, finally have my stride back and feel like a runner - injury DOES end, and it also makes training after the injury that much more enjoyable for your time away. More importantly, sometimes and injury can show you where you've just been going through the training motions instead of listening to your body and adapting your schedule to how you feel.

Best of luck and a speedy recovery to all of you,
Anthony
