Newtons O.K. for flat feet?

I'm thinking of purchasing some Newton running shoes. I have flat feet, with a slight pronation, 5'6", 185 lbs. I've been using Nike Vomero 2's for the last couple of years and they've been really good. I have a pair of Vomero 3's and they feel different than the previous. I wan't to get away from Nike since they don't last very long. Anyone out there with similar feet who have tried the Newtons? What are your views?

i like nike vomeros too, but unless you have access to a good deal on them they are hardly worth the cost because they lose their "umph" relatively quickly compared to other shoes. this is not the case with the newtons, from what i have read. as far as your flat feet, only you cn decide how they feel. if you have never tried them on, be in for a surprise, they have this action/reaction technology that feels funny when you first run, almost like you are on those big platform-toed Stength Shoes that were popular for athletes in the late 90's. I would highly recommend trying them on at your local store first. Try the stability shoe they make, ideally the trainer one. best of luck.

I can only think of a few reasons why you would switch shoes if you have NO injuries/discomfort with your current shoes.

1. You want to find the perfect shoe BEFORE you get an injury.
2. You are invincible and can not be injured no matter which shoe you use.

I'd love to be a more efficient runner, and I think Newtons, Nike Free, or another lightweight shoe that improves healstrike form might help me. However, I'm running 50+ miles a week without injury, so I can't justify changing.

To answer your question, there are 2 people that I run with that have knowledge of Newtons. On uses them, the other owns the local running store, and I respect both of their opinions. They agree that those shoes are great when they work, but it's not for every type of foot. I'm not sure which side of the fence that flat foot falls, but if I was you, I'd take the advice of hoss19 and try a pair out. Hopefully the store you go to has someone that is knowledgeable about them and not just trying to sell you a pair no matter what.
