so unfortunately, i am not able to do any tris this season :(

but before anyone gets too sad, here's the reason: i'm saving up to go backpacking through europe this august. couldn't be more excited for the trip, but i'm bummed that i can't do any races. needless to say, the training intensity has dropped since this decision... and sometimes it's dropped a little too far (oops..) but that's when i check out this site and read all of your posts and get the motivation back to start some training again. so i just wanted to say thanks to all of you for keeping me in love with this sport... it's nice to "play along at home" i guess.

i'll be living vicariously through you this season, so put up some good race reports!!

cool. i understand the sport can be expensive. I'm probably going to do a limited number of them this year to save some money again. Just think of it an awesome base phase. Keep at the training, or at least some of it (your favorites) so you can go into next year strong and ready to go. Plus you'll need to be fit and have good endurance for that backpack trip in August. Fun! where you going?

as well, don't abandon because you're not racing :), this site for people (athletes) living an endurance lifestyle whether it's one of the 3 sports or they're racing or not. good to have like minded people around for motivation and support.

so, back to my question... where you going?

the way i see it, you can take a trip like this when you're young and committment-free and do it on the cheap or you can wait until you're retired and have the money to spend. i don't want to wait that long. i'm hoping to go to southern germany, switzerland, prague, croatia, northern italy, southern france, maybe paris... depends what city we fly into. but really, all i need is a plane ticket and a eurailpass and i'm all set... i'll figure it out when i get there. (yeah right...)

and i was thinking the same thing, tribro... this is just a really really long base phase ;) you all better watch out next season (hahaha!)

Annie - have fun in Europe! I've been planning a Europe trip for awhile. But now I'm signed up for so many races. With all the $$ put into racing and traveling for the races, it's hard to fit in a Europe trip and save up $$ for it. So instead of Europe, I'm looking at my races as my vacations - Florida, Chicago, NYC. Next year I'm hoping on Europe! I'm looking to fly into Amsterdam, then traveling down to Northern Italy, Austria, and Switzerland - the Alps regions and exploring smaller towns and villages. And then travel down to Rome and fly out from there. I have it all planned already - I just need to commit and do it!

Have fun and report back on your trip when you return!
