The weather should be okay and cool enough to wear the kilt.
Way better than wearing it at Disney in 80+ degree weather ;-)

I thought it was the other way around, where your mind is in the gutter and may wander out of the gutter once in awhile. ;-)

I'm registered for the half, but can't run it! I ignored shin pain for 5 months, which turned out to be a stress reaction. :( At least I'm in this stupid boot for only 4 weeks!
I have quite a few friends running the full. Have fun & good luck!
Man! ...I go to work, come home, And this thread has gone from "hey who else is going?" to mud slinging at the Gutter Club!
Have a great time you guys!
And Triswimmer...don't worry about the "Stupid Boot." It's better than "I can't run ever again and may lose my lower leg because I was stupid and wouldn't stop running."

Sorry you are going to miss it. The weather is going to be perfect for it too.
Heal up, there is plenty of time left this year to get back into it.
'Nothing to it, but to do it!'
I am off. Leaving work in a minute for the ride to DC.
The kilt is back!! ;-)
'Nothing to it, but to do it!'
I'm back.
I left work on Friday around noon. I picked up my wife at the train station nearby and we were off to Washington DC.
The traffic was light so we made good time to the Expo/Packet Pickup at the Armory next to RFK Stadium where the start would be on Saturday.
I was able to zip thru the packet pickup. The race shirt was a technical t-shirt so that was nice.
We went to the various booths and picked up some schwag.
Bart Yasso had a booth and was selling his book,'My Life on the Run'. I had my copy and he signed it for me. We chatted for awhile about running(of course) and different races. He is a real friendly guy.
We left the expo and headed to my brother-in-laws house, just outside of DC.
We got there early enough to relax and hang out with the family. I had some pre race pasta and even a beer. I got my gear set out for the next day.
My wife opted to stay at her brothers house and visit more the next day since she doesn't see them that often. I gave her a free pass since she is such a great supporter every other race.
4:30 am came pretty early and I was greeted with 29 degrees and clear. Brrrr!
I opted for long shorts under my Kilt, and I added a light base layer under my Tuxedo shirt.
I also put on my homemade disposable tube sock arm warmers, and gloves.
My wife stayed in the warm and cozy bed. This is the part of the race day that is toughest.
The call of the warm bed and a few hours more sleep.
I had a light breakfast of ensure, banana, bagel with a smear of peanut butter.
I washed it all down with some gatorade. My coffee I saved for the ride to the Metro station.
I put on my sweatpants and jacket and the rest of my gear in my bag loaded the car.
The ride was only about 15 minutes. Enough time to finish my coffee.
I parked and went down to the Metro and got my ticket.
The train arrived a few minutes after I got down to the track level.
The ride took about 40 minutes and gave me a change to relax and sip some gatorade, and chat with some other runners.
I was hoping to get there earlier to stretch, hit the porta potty and drop off my bag.
I was able to do all this but I had to rush it.
I stripped off my sweats and jacket and stuffed them in my bag and dropped it off at the baggage tent. They were just starting the race and I was running into the corral.
What I would find out several miles later is that I got into the wrong corral. I thought the pace sign read 4:15, when it was really 3:45. Big difference when I planned to take it easy and use it as a training run.
The course leaves RFK and winds it way down toward the Capitol. I got several comments on my choice of Tuxedo shirt and Kilt. I am a fashion plate, what can I say.
I didn't press the right button on my watch and I didn't realize how fast I was running. I got closer to the pacer and saw the sign for 3:45. OOOOPS!! I then slowed myself down.
A group of women saw me an yelled out 'Sexy legs!'. There was a woman in front of me that turned her head and I had to tell her that they were talking to me, but I told her she was 2nd most sexy legs. I chatted with them for a while. I was making it a fun day.
The course is surprisingly hilly. Nothing huge but a lot of ups and then downs.
I chatted up lots of people during the race. I ran a few miles with a guy named Bothwell and we talked about recovery techniques. I caught up to a fellow jarhead Gary and gave him some spare Sport beans I had with me. Toward the end I ran with a woman Jo, mom of 4 who was doing her first marathon. She was great to talk too. We ran to the finish.
I was feeling okay but my legs were a little heavy, but hey they were sexy!
I got my medal, got some food, got my bag and got on the train. It was a chance to relax.
I drove back to my brother-in-laws and hung out for the rest of the weekend.

Congrats on a successful day, Beads! Sorry we couldn't hook up but glad you enjoyed the day running around my city!
nice report!
what time did you stop the clock, sexylegs?
how many marathons do you have planned for this year?
nice report as always Beads...you're laid back approach to the races is always impressive...it's like you didn't even run a marathon...just took a jog with some friends and strangers in a new city.
Congrats Beads! Told you kilts are HOT! Sounds like a great way to do marathons- good job :)

I did enjoy my day in DC. Running a marathon is always a great way(IMO) to see a place.
I am laid back in general, and I am not fast so I always treat the marathon as a tour.
If I meet up with friends I chat with them. If I don't I chat with whoever is around and will listen.
I finished in a leisurely 4:58 or 9, and 'Sexy legs' is what the ladies call me ;-)
Right now it looks like I will be doing 10 or more marathons/ultras this year.
'Nothing to it, but to do it!'
Only 10! Slacker. :-)
Congrats on another great marathon experience.

...or more, that includes a few ultras, also a few tris this summer.
Okay, I am a slacker. I promise to try harder! ;-)

Kilt man.... I tracked you down! I can't say thank you enough. I really needed someone to run with for that last 6.2 :) I didn't know at the time, but I reinjured my achielles, and might not have finished at all if it weren't for your encouragement and attitude.
Thanks Scott! I've got a few tri's and another marathon on the docket as soon as the injury is healed... maybe our paths will cross again someday. Enjoy your year, sounds like you have a lot planned.

Thanks for the race report and congrats to everyone! My sister and friends said it was great running weather!

I will be doing the National Marathon in Washington DC this weekend.
Anybody else?
I think I am going to wear the kilt for this one since it is so close to St. Patricks Day!
