Hey, so I just put in my annual first (yes, every year there is a first which is fallowed by many more) Hammer Nutrition order. Firstly I was wondering what brands you people supplement, and what products you use. I have always been a bread and butter electrolyte drink and gels sort of person, but I saw all of these crazy products on the site like recovery drinks, protein powders, electrolyte pills, etc. and it got me wondering if I should maybe branch out. Anyway, what do you use and who makes it, that's my question.

I use Infinit Nutrition, and PowerGels...that's about all I eat in regard to "athletic food"...This is my second season on Infinit, I used a lower calorie mix last year for shorter races, but have liked both thus far.
Otherwise, I eat organic nutri-grain style fruit bars, granola bars...chocolate milk for recovery...and lots of water

I did the Infinit thing for a while. It's one of the better products, but personally I didn't see a tremendous performance distinction from off-the-shelf sports drinks, combined with my balanced training diet. If you insist on going the single-source route, it's probably one of the more palatable options. IMO Hammer makes the best individual products, if you can tolerate them - most people can. These days, I mainly follow the DIY route. I buy bulk malto, fructo, and whey, then utilize them as my needs require. The only real supplement that I use are consolidated BCAAs (i.e. powder and pills) which I've found provide me with a little edge in recovery (lots of brands out there). The best thing to do is research various supplements, select a few, try them out, and see what works. And always remember that protein-added sports drinks don't hold up well in the heat.

i'll always have Gu as my gel because i get big discounts at my bike shop.
i also will take white flood by uncontrolled labs before intense swim workouts to pump me up.
I'll also use ultragen for post workout
if your supplements have been working for you then you dont have to worry about changing anything. You can obviously try other supplements to see if they work for you, just make sure not to change your nutrition too close to any of your races.

BSN no-xplode, stuff makes you want to run through a wall at high speeds. I use before strength sessions and before shorter races (5k).

So I guess white flood and BSN no-xplode are too short lived for use in Olym and HIM?

I'm a Succeed! kind of guy. www.succeedscaps.com
Have used Succeed! caps for years. Just your basic Bicarbonate of Soda in a a capsule. Plenty of Na and K and buffers stomach acid.
Clip, Amino work well for me but really are for looong events, like Ultras and IM's. Light taste, some protein and branch chain amino acids.
No hype, nifty clothes or glossy pamphlets. Just good stuff at a good price.
For snacks on race day, Clif energy foods. Blocks pre-race, gels during.
For shorter races and stand alone marathons I just use what's on the course.

Not saying NO xplode is not good for longer races I just do not want to find out by "crashing" or cramping up mid race

I agree with this. Theres a good chance that with energy supplements you'll get too excited and push yourself too hard too early. The supplement that i use (white flood) is REALLY intense (it even makes your skin tingle because of the high dosage of beta-alanine...which pumps me up even more!!). However, i only really use it for short, intense bike workouts and alot of my more intense swim workouts (and of course for my lifting workouts). I've never tried it before a race or a run and i probably never will.

Of course after years of trying different stuff, I've found that Amino Vital fast charge packets provide the essential foundation for my training and racing. In addition to GU, cliff Bars and Gatorade propel/ Water/ Reg Gatorade mix (str8 Gatorade gets sweet and syrupy during hot weather) work for me the best.
I take 1 packet before a workout, mix 1 or more packets in my drinks (depending on the # of bottles and length of workout) and 1 as soon as I get back from the workout.
It helps me recover while staying active (at work), keeps my immune system up and decreases soreness faster.
