I have a noobish question about headsets: I’m looking at making some upgrades to my mountain bike for the summer season. One of the things I want to do is add front suspension. My current (rigid) fork is threaded. The bike is older but the frame and components are solid. But I back in the late nineties I swapped out the cheapo quill stem for an Ahead set and a more modern binder style stem. My question is, what is the basic advantage of a threadless headset vs a threaded? My plan was to pick up a used fork on ebay and rebuild it as needed. Changing the headset is an option. It is easier to find threadless forks. Any comments?

Sheldon Brown's site has a nice description of the benefits of the threadless headset.

+1 Sheldon knows all. Less to go wrong on a threadless, isn't there? I have never run one on my mtb just on my tri bike. It's nice on there! Totally unrelated though :)
