Old Bike
if it fits, works, and is comfortable, it is the perfect bike for you

I did my first triathlon - an Olympic distance race, on my Sears department store special, you know, with 27" wheels and valves like the ones on car tires. I didn't even bother to take the front and rear racks off! It worked OK.
I have seen lots of people do sprints on their mountain bikes. Anything with two wheels is fine. Just have fun.
After you have done a few races you will find out what personal adjustments you want to make, but to start with, you're fine as you are.
Best of luck.

Sounds like your bike is one notch above mine!
If it is comfortable and works...that is all you can ask.

Hey Boodie!
I'm a weightlifter too, and getting into the tri's as well! Let me know how your endurance training works with your lifting! Very interested to see if we can mix the two!!

Yeah Crokoz, you show 'em!
I have a buddy who did IM Canada on a 3-speed Schwinn!
He passed a lot of people on it too, going up Richter pass, just to say it could be done.
..Indian, not the arrow.. heh. That's a good one, Mamps.

I am a 34 year old newbie to triathlon. I am your typical weight lifter that wants to do a triathlon. I am obviously going to need to train ALOT for endurance. I recently bought a Dave Scott Centurian Ironman road bike. Is this bike good enough for a beginner? I will only be doing Sprint Triathlons at first. The bike fits me great and I am very comfortable with it.
Any comments or suggestions are greatly apprciated!!!
Thanks in advance!
