I'm prepping for a HIM and I'm wondering what do most wear under their wetsuit? Do you wear a swim brief? Basically, gear-wise, what do do you use and then what and how do you transition from that to the bike leg?

You'll probably gets lots of advice for tri suits, which is a good option, but for 70.3s and up, I want the comfort of full cycling chamois. So I swim with cycling shorts under my wetsuit. Yes, the chamois fills with water, but it drains/dries quickly. I don't mind running in it either.

+1 on the bike shorts for the long stuff. Tri shorts for short races. For all races I wear my top under the suit too. No transition time killer like trying to pull a tight tri top on over a wet body.

+1 on the bike shorts, and if it is a non-USAT sanctioned race, don't wear anything underneath your wetsuit. You won't get penalized, and you will have dry shorts in which to bike. I swear this works - try it.

Out of the water, on the bike. I have a small (hand towel sized) towel in my area, mostly to mark my turf. If I still have a lot of sand or dirt on my feet, I MAY wipe them off real quick. Rubber bands for the shoes on the bike. That's it. The less crap you have in your TA, the faster you'll be. Tubs of water, changes of clothes, all not needed unless you are in some foul weather.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
