I was looking at the USAT web site and came across their coaching section and it got me thinking, is this worth anything? Does anyone out there know what the certification involves, what it ends up costing, does anyone have this cert? What's the story.
There are three levels of
There are three levels of certification... they and their requirements are described in fairly great detail on the USAT website. Short version is that level I cert requires attendance at a 2.5 day training seminar ($500), and passing a written exam. Level II requires Level I plus add'l requirements (eg. a college degree in a related field). Level III elite has multiple requirements and I think you need to apply to even be considered to take the test.
Each level requires continuing education credits and contributions to the sport to maintain your coaching certification.

I'm trying to figure out
I'm trying to figure out long term goals, if the program is benaficial or just a bunch of USAT groupies having a get together. I like the idea of coaching, and have liked what little I've done. I'm still a very young triathlete but would like to move that way, coaching that is. I've been a ski instructor for years and I really enjoy getting people outside, helping them improve upon what they are already doing, and introducing people to something that is both fun and good for them.
Do you happen to know how hard the exam is? Is it something that I should start studying for now if I plan on looking into the cert next year or is it something that you go to the 2.5 days of training and learn what you need there? Think I'll loose as much sleep over it as I did with the Fundamental of Engineering exam? :) Ehh... I'm going to go swim. enough talking.
