Torn about a C Race
If it is truly a C race, I would just race it for fun and see how it ends up. If you have placed 2nd the last two years, you are only one person not showing up away from possibly winning it anyway.
Do it for fun, and if you do win it great but I wouldn't let it affect your A or B races.

Ok...so his will happen: You decide to train for and focus on winning then something out of your control will happen...like 6 other people show up, who never showed up before...all of them faster than you!
Just do it for fun! If you start getting wrapped up in it..it's not a "C" race anymore.

I have to agree with Anton. Although maybe you should consider making this more than a C race as it seems to have some appeal to you. There is nothing wrong with a "small" race being important to you!!!

I say go for it!There is nothing like winning a race!I have never won a tri race but did place first in a couple of road races and i know it will probably never happen again now that I'm getting older! Good luck!:)

It's a tough call...but I think I'm with lala...you don't often get a chance to win the OA at a race (many of us never will). I'd upgrade it to a B race though and treat is as such, b/c with the goal of winning it can't really be just for fun C race.
If additional top-tier competition shows and you don't win, having it not be an A race still makes it not a big loss, and you can use it as a focus on high intensity race strategy.
That is, as long as it is far enough from your A races that it won't disrupt their training
What is the differentiation between a B and C race? As far as I'm concerned, all are tune ups for the race(s) you're focussing on, but should still be approached head on. Push yourself to the breaking point in any of them, regardless of the priority.
Train right through your "C" race, and don't bother with prep for it. Your biggest volume will be in July into early August, so you shouldn't be too gassed in early June. Or, if you really want to be prepped for anything come June, up the intensity in training now, and just keep increasing it through August. You may be in a position to win your "A" race then, too.
Thanks for your opinions!
I think I'll do a tiny bit of speedwork to prep for it, just not go over the top. (The same chick has won this race the last 5 years or so, if she wants to win it again I want to make her work for it!)

A "C" race has no peak or taper, no rest at all, it usually takes the place of a weekend Brick workout. Your workouts are not specifically preparing you for that race. A "B" race is usually paired with an "A" race. Its like a warm up race. You likely will have a reduced workload that week, with the "B" race being your BT workout that week, but will not taper or peak specifically for that race- though you may be peaking for your "A" race the week before or after.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Early June I have a C race, very short sprint tri (won't last longer than 55min). It's more for fun, but the last two years I placed 2nd overall and I really want to try and win the thing. (Never actually won a whole race before, could be really cool).
I'm not sure if it's worth trying to create a pre-peak so early in the season (real peak will be end of August). I don't want to mess up the rest of my season for a "fun" race that isn't going to earn me points towards my "real" race series.
Thoughts?
