Hey guys,

I was hoping to get some advice on a blister issue I have. Typically I would never pop a blister and after searching through this forum I've gotten the sense that it's just an individual choice-as long as you try to be super sanitary if you choose to pop on.

The issue I'm having concerns a a few blisters I've recently been getting-a few on my toes and one on the ball of my foot. They are not super big (smaller than a penny) and don't hurt at all. They've been here for a 3-4wks. My problems is that the don't seem to be doing away. I kind of thought that my body might just absorb them back in. That in itself doesn't bother me too much but it concerns me because it feels like a callus is starting to build up on top of the blisters. I've heard that this is not a good thing to have happen. Is this a problem that I should worry about?

Thanks for any thoughts you might have.

Pop and drain. And then I'd start looking into preventative measures at this point. Looking at your tags, I see "running shoes". Something is going on with the fit that is causing this. Either that or you are posting from the [urlhttp://www.saharamarathon.co.uk/]Marathon des Sables.[/url] A lot of people will (rightfully) suggest treatment such as mole skin$. Psst, try duct tape for blister prevention. It doesn't come off, it's cheap, ubiquitous, and water proof. (I've even used it for saddle sores. Aaaaaahhhh!)

Pop and drain-will do.

Hmm...as far what's causing this-that's has got me a little confused.
These shoes are not new at this point. I got them when I started training for my first tri last summer-when to a running shop-got fitted and and LOVED them from day one. I've used them since then while trained for a 10k and now am about to do my first 10 miler. Right now I'm averaging about 27 miles a week and that is the most it's been since I've started.

I've increased my miles very slowly so besides that I haven't changed anything. So does this mean it's time for new shoes? Other than that I don't know how to prevent this. As appealing as duct tape sounds I hope I don't have to tape up every run to stop this from happening!

If you got them last summer...I'd say it's definately time for new shoes. You're shoes should only last 300-500 miles for road running. If you've been averaging 15 miles/week on them, they'd hit 300 miles after 20 weeks (~5 months), then you should be monitoring them closely. My guess is yours probably are in the range of losing thier support. It's not unusual to have to replace running shoes 2-3 times a year, if you see a sale of a shoe you know works for you...buy in bulk, they don't have expiration dates.

Change the shoes and see what happens since sounds like a newer problem. Definately sounds like your shoes are past their prime.

I have never really had to many blister problems so I have never tried duct tape, but on a relay race I had used a band-aid blister band-aid and they worked well, however, they are much more expensive than a roll of duct tape, so I would start there if you need to.

Yep, I guess I didn't want to believe that it was time to move onto a new pair of shoes. I just ordered the same pair online. I love them.

Thanks for all of your input.
