Well the link points to a fairly damning story but there is no account from the swimmer or her crew that confesses to a hoax.

Is it too much to believe that she could have achieved those speeds it in the time given because of favorable currents? or did the crew just haul ass during the nights when she got on the boat?

'Estimated swim distance - 250miles' Thats a big difference than swimming the whole ocean!!!

How do you get blown off course soo bad that you end up in Trinidad instead of the Bahamas? Didnt her support boat have GPS?

Now that it was pointed out it makes sense that she didn't do it.

That sucks that people do that crap ;-P

That link is dead (well article not found) - here is a link to another one that breaks down the impossibility of that.

Basically it says she would have had to swam approximately 130 miles a day to complete this.

Moral of the story: Always better to underpromise and overdeliver.

From the article, "she rested on her crew’s westward-sailing catamaran".

Scam. I don't know why I (or anyone esle) didn't catch this: 2,000 miles / 19 days swimming / 8 hours per day = 13mph. And for ya'll tri-geeks, that's a 00:17 per 100meter pace. Yeah, right. Now go back to obscurity and leave us alone.

Quite right. I'm kicking myself for posting it in the first place without doing the math. Doh!

and me a math teacher too..

I remember a story reported in Time Magazine many years ago that Chairman Mao had swum some distance in the Yangtse River that worked out to 9mph!

Of course, he was swimming downstream, but still!

As Chairman Mao said, you can't rule a nation without a little bullshit marketing hype.
