First off, increase the number of days you are swimming.
Try one day at 2500M, middle day at around1500M, then last day at 2500M. Start to / force yourself to increase your distance on your longer swim days. Add a few extra 100 meters / 200 meters or so.
Second (acutually first)I'd have my stoke checked out (local swim coach should be able to give you some direction).
Third, try a wieght lifting regimine.

Pain is temporary. Quitting is forever.
I try. Neutral head position looking down, breathing by body-roll and rotating the entire body core, kick only to initiate body roll.
Mix it up a bit. Don't always try to swim long. Swim distances in broken fashion like 4x200 swim alternating wiht pulls. 500 swim, 100 kick , you get the idea. Speed some of the session up, then have a slow recovery lap(s). Go to a masters swim class once a week for some added variety. But keep it mixed up lane swimming can get very monotonous quick.
It seems that I need to improve my stroke. I will look for someone to look my swim and get input on that and add another day to the practices. That will be hard; my only time open is @ 6am. But that’s another issue. Thanks for your recommendations
Master's swim. You'd be amazed at what you are capable of when you have other people pushing you. I think it was Rich Strauss that said just changing an athlete's perception of what is difficult is a challenge in itself.
What's a mts?
I think he means meters.
Meters.
Technically the length of the pool is 25 yards and I am counting it as meters. This puts me in an even worst position. I'm swimming 2286 meters! Anyway last night I did short drills to warm-up, a pyramid as a main set and again short warm down drills for a total of 2500 yards. It worked out fine. I was not mentally tired. I think the short rest between drills help me out. Also I have asked a former co-worker to check out my swim. He was a master's coach and has been swimming many years. I bribe him with a cliff bar and a Gatorade. Sometimes you just have to ask. He said he will film me.
cheer up. warmer weather is coming, i would take some time away from the pool, focus on something else for a while (absence makes the heart grow fonder) come back in 5 weeks and you will miss the water and apprach everything with new enthusiasm,,,its sooooo early in the season, dont burn yourself out on swimming so soon
My personal experience tells me that the interval (or sets) advice is good. I had a similar problem about eight months ago. I was swiming what were really nothing but 2500 to 3000 meter time trials. I found the workouts both boring and unproductive! I implemented a new plan, same distances, but set or interval based workouts. This has not only made my workouts more enjoyable, but my times have been steadily declining. I would research and find some workouts (there are decent ones in Triathlete mag this month) and give them a try, it can't hurt. Good luck!

Have you ever tried swim paddles for your hands or a pull buoy? These items you can find at a local swim store and will help with your body positioning. The paddles will force you to have correct hand placement and a complete follow through and the pull buoy which goes between your legs will keep your hips high and more level. With improved technique will significantly help your distance.
Yes, I use paddles occassionally, and I use the pull buoy just about every time I swim. I also do intervals around 2x per week.
Doing 600m was actually a huge improvement before me - a week before, I was only able to do 250m. Last nite, I did 800m non-stop for the first time. So actually, I've been pretty happy with my progress the past few weeks, especially considering that I've been working on it since August. Hopefully the increases will continue!

I have not been able to swim more than 2500 mts. I have tried different drills and days (when I’m rested) with no avail. I have been swimming regularly since January, twice a week. . When I’m getting to the 2500 mark I lost concentration, feel tired and want out the pool thinking that poor technique is not use. I should be able to swim more distance by now. What’s wrong?
