The WILDFLOWER TRIATHLON IN CALIFORNIA
Hey armyjive I have no info about the wildflower.
Do you still live in Santa Rosa? It is great to finally see some one from my area on here. Great luck on your training and good luck on wildflower.
PAIN IS TEMPORARY, PRIDE IS FOREVER!
Whether you think you can, or you think you can't you are right!
You doing the half?
I've done the Oly several times and yes it is the toughest race I've done. I find the Oly harder than the Half Vineman do to serious climbs on the bike and run.
There are some long ride and run climbs during the Half as well. The bike aside from a few serious climbs in very rolling. So it's hard to maintain a consistent heart rate. Lots of spikes. If you can try to remain composed during the ride, stay within your race so you can conserve energy for a rolling run as well. There usually a good climb at the beginning of the run. Make sure you're doing your hill workouts.
It can be a very crowded race as well. So be sure not to cross the dividers on the road, I've seen some ugly crashes with people trying to zoom down the declines and pass people crossing the yellow. It's not worth it. Also because it's crowded it can be very tempting to pace off someone or get in and out of you zone as others pass you. Leave your pride at home and stick to your game plan. Most likely you'll catch those that pass you on the bike during the run as they're doubled over with seized quads.
RYAN,
Yes, I am moving back home from Ft. Bragg, nc and finally getting out of the Army. I will be living in santa Rosa right next to Anadel or spring lake, so an awesomeplace to live for training. Anyway, you can hit me up with email or send me your email and we'll get together if you need a training partneer or something.

Ok, the Wildflower will be my 3rd triathlon. And the first time doing the wildflower. Everyone I talk to says that it's one of the hardest races out there with all of the hills and terrain. i know that there are some of you out there that have done this race before and finished with all of its glory. ABut, I'm sure there's some much stored knowledge about the race that you would like to share with others. If you have the 4-1-1 such as types of training leading up to the race, good spots to set up camp. how early to arrive, just anything. Any secrets you learned would be helpful.
