Okay, I've taken it on myself to spearhead this, since I made the original thread and from the replies I got, it was split 50/50 of virtual tri and meet somewhere, so to make it a fun and relaxed thing that you can pencil in as a brick'ish type workout midseason let's do a virtual tri and YOU pick the destination where you do it, no pressure just good fun! So, this can be the unofficial registration thread for it. Here are the races, I doubt anybody will do the Ironman, but if we have any takers....I'll put it in here anyway.

Sprint:
500m swim, 15 mile bike, 5k

Oly:
1.5km swim, 25 mile bike, 10k

Half Ironman
1.9km swim, 56 mi bike, and 13.1 mi run

Ironman
3.8km swim, 112 mi bike, and 26.2 mi run

3 person relays will be accepted in the form of Hat relays. Basically, sign up for whatever leg you wish to do, we will put your name in a hat, and whatever teams are drawn, it will be the combined total for that. The only prizes will be bragging rights on the forum. Let me know how you guys feel, or if you just wanna have one distance for everybody or what you guys wanna do?

I'll do Oly...it'll be between late May and end of June depending on what weekends I have available. A good (and cheap) tune-up for my HIM's in the fall. Now I also have the course finding issue.

What do you mean "I doubt anyone will do the Ironman"?
Count me in @ that distance.
Just give me a little lead time.
We gonna get a T shirt?

If we can hold off until May or June I will do the IM swim or bike. I bet some of the advanced trifuel swimmers do close to 2 miles on a regular basis so adding the .4 would not be a problem. Getting someone to do the run might be difficult unless somebody is training for an Ultra.

We could probably ger quite a few of the people IM training for teams for HIM distances. Just a normal part of training on medium distance days.

Okay, so we have may-june so far for time frames, 1 sprinter, 1 IM, 1 sprint relayer, a good idea about those in IM training doing the half relays, 8 oly, and i think i will be doing the sprint, since that is what i'm currently training for....OR i will volunteer to do a leg of the OLY(i'll be a free agent if we need one). I'm thinking we pick a week, and you choose the time/day and course, that way not only will you get to have a fun course, but you can decide to do it on a nice sunshine day if you choose to do something like the beach, or an offroad trail run in the woods when its pooring down rain. you control the weather! we report to a forum thread the times and splits and stuff. ideas for contests anybody? we have the hardest course, how bout the most insane or dangerous course, the most scenic course, the most metropolitan course, the course most envied by other trifuelers etc. and yes, we can have t-shirts. I guess I'll go and get t-shirts made and mail them out, if somebody wants to design a shirt, and I will take donations for the shirts if anybody wants to help out *wink wink*. any other ideas you guys want to throw out?

We need a cool slogan for this if you are doing t-shirts. "triathletes even do it in cyberspace" or "run, bike, swim: anywhere, anytime, anyplace" okay, neither of those are great. SerialKiller should be able to come up with something. Other suggestions?

If its around end of May or beginning of June I have a HIM scheduled for June 8th so that would work great for me. Otherwise count me in for Oly during that time.

I'll do a full oly solo, or the bike or run leg of a HIM on a team. (I'd hate to stick any team with my swim times.)

I'll be up for any weekend that's not to close to May 17th. Preferably a Sat.

(May 17th is my HIM in Orlando)

I'll do an Oly by myself, and am happy to do the swim portion of any IM or HIM team. I do over 2.4 as a regular workout distance anyways, no sweat to do it continuous.

gfd if you're up for the bike, we just need a marathon runner, any takers??

Sounds great. Maybe somebody is doing a May or June marathon? Maybe we could also count April marathons if more people are interested in the IM distance relays? I believe Beads is planning on running the Jersey Shore Mary. I don't remember if it is April of May.

Shirt idea: Front- Trifuel Triathlon
Sprint/OLY/HIM/IM

Back- A list of every city/town and state it is taking place in.

It will look like a concert shirt and will be sure to inspire questions from people.

I'm in for an early May Sprint. It would make a great first swim in the lake near my house. All I have to do is figure out how you measure that kind of distance in the water. I'll take pictures of the course and post.

I also like the T-shirt idea.

I have a HIM in early May, but any other weekend I'd be up for an Oly.

Question re: the rules...do "transition times" count? I.e., Heading out on the bike straight from the local pool would likely mean having a backpack unless I could convince my husband to sherpa there. Will the race be truly back to back, or is there space for travel-time transitions (presuming it's in good faith and not an 8am swim and 4pm bike, for example)?

If this is happening in May, count me in for either swim or run on an oly or half relay. I'd even be willing to jump on a 2 person team if someone wants to do the bike and I'll hit both run and swims with a 1-hour break between for oly or 2-hour interlude for a half. I'm planning an all out 10k some time in May anyway, so the relay will fit right in. If this is the 2nd or 4th week of June, I have olys already on the schedule, so I'll be down for that. (Will this count if we're at an actual race, not just going virtual? I like the convenience, but it does give people the advantage of support crews on course and other competitors to chase down).

Don't forget the provinces and countries on the T shirts. My Oly will be a full oly myself, May would be fine for us as well. My partner is signed up for her first Tri in August, so the 5k will be fun for her, even though her first "live" race will be 300/15/3. Looks good!

we could have 2 seperate divisions...one w/ straight tris w/ traditional transitions, and one where you just post the times of the seperate legs, and not worry about transition(given its as back to back as possible, and within reason, as you mentioned.) that way you could do something like swim @ the beach, bike downtown, and run trails, or something(would be something i'd consider.)

'I'm in as I have several events coming up.

5k roadrace on April 17,
Metric century on April 25th,
And a full 104 up to the top of Mt. Mitchell on May 18th, that should count for the bike of an iron i think.

Could also do Oly or HIM distance Bike or Run on any other Sat. or Sundays not aligning with the above.

glad I found this one... sounds like a blast. I'm hoping it's still going to happen. I'll do an oly myself. Fiance is laughing at me getting excited about doing a "race" with people I can't see but she did agree to drop my bike and me off at the gym to get my swim in then finish the bike at my house to go for the run.

i dont know what today will bring to me, but thats just fine.

Can I propose that at this point advobwhite come up with the rules and post them for signup? Kind of like the 50 Days of Core....lots of ideas floating around, but someone eventually has to be the "rule maker" and everyone else can choose to participate or not based on the final structure..

Go for it, diva mom! Use all that extra energy to better the tri community (at least on trifuel!) and if you're making the rules, maybe set up a category for those who will be racing in a speedo- get 5 minutes taken off your final time if you post pics ;)
