After having the same Alx wheels for 6 years its time for an upgrade. I am looking for something that is reasonably priced around the $300 range. Currently I am looking at the Mavic Aksium (http://www.mavic.com/road/products/aksium.995653.1.aspx).
Any thoughts or suggestions would be great.

I would recommend trying to find a low miles used set of Mavic Ksyriums. This isn't in your price range, but I bought a set of Ksyrium SLs for about $600 with 100 miles on them. You could probably find some Elites for less than $300. And I also have a set of Bontrager Aero Lite wheels I got with 20 miles for about $200 if i remember correctly.
If you have any local cycling clubs, they probably have for sale forums or try Craigslist.
I now have 4000 miles on my Ksyriums and only had to have the front wheel trued after i ran over it with my truck. (True story)
