i was thinking to myself today at work....Self: since this is a triathlon community, why not have a triathlon? I know of car forums where people just meet up and drive around/mod their cars for the weekend, and its a huge migration for that weekend, and I know of boating forums where they meet and fix their boats(and kayaks) up and modify them, even gaming forums who meet up for a weekend and have a 2-3 day LAN party. I'm wondering who'd be interested in having a fun race weekend? We can have different lengths for the various levels out here and have a grand ol' time. Who's interested?

I'm totally up for something. A few of us got together a couple seasons back for a race that's here in town. Pacific Crest. It at the end of June and they have an olympic and a half. why don't we pick an "unofficial" west coast race (Pacific Crest) and an East Coast race (suggestions?) and try to hook up. I'd also be up for hosting a weekend training gathering in Bend...

We could also have a "virtual" triathlon for those of us that can't make it. Have a distance and all start at the same time. Just a thought because I know we can't all make it.

I think picking an east/west coast race and just seeing who shows up is probably as good as you'll get. Maybe pick a new race each year in a different location. That way more people will have an opportunity and it should help with advertising, especially if you choose larger races. A good place to start would be to check out the races on the events page with the most participants.

I'm staying in the west this year but Boise 70.3 and IMC are the only races I'm going out of state for. Is the Lieto clan making its way back to Boise this year?

I think this is a great idea. It would be great to meet all of you in person. We talk so much but it would be awesome to put a face to it all.

During the month of August I will be going from Arizona to Massachusetts or New York(depending on the college I go to). Minnesota would be great for me because I have family there I am planning on visiting anyway.

I'm not going to do Pac Crest this year, but I'd try to travel over there to cheer on whatever TriFuelers do the race. As long as there's someplace to park my Vanagon, I'm good.

I am in for virtual, unless you are all interested in a trip to Newfoundland! We could set some distances and routes get some pretty entertaining race reports...can't wait to see serialkillers title on that one!

I'm in for virtual, too. The farthest I can convince hubby to let me go is maybe Austin in October. (I know, Sooner, you signed me up for that one in Lubbock, not this year :)

Since I'm using all my vacation time for my honeymoon this year, I'd be up for virtual or something in the Northeast. Clearwater area would be awesome otherwise since I have family in the area.

Matt and Chris will be in Boise. I'm not sure if I'm going. Planning on Pacific Crest half instead for now.

So, let's say West Coast this year is Pacific Crest. We'll do a virtual as well, let's pick a date for that, either early summer or late summer? And we still need an east coast race and a midwest if all the midwesteners want to throw out some suggestions. Once we have our race choices I'll highlight them on the home page for a quick link to see who all's attending.

I'd be down for Hy-Vee in Des Moines, Lifetime in Minneapolis/St. Paul, or Chicago. For the people trying to qualify for AG Nationals, there's Evergreen in Illinois that could be an option as well. (I'm suggesting these because they're all on my tentative schedule).

-Edit-

Lifetime and Evergreen are on the same day, so it would be one or the other, and I'm already registered for Evergreen...

jhudalla,
I am right there with you in Minnesota feeling the midwest getting no love. Signed up for two so far this summer. Timberman in Grand Rapids and New Bri Tri in New Brighton.

Yes I agree! I am doing it this summer. Amazing race in Boulder- great climb, Olympic distance race. And come on- we all know Boulder is the MECCA of triathlon.

I think Bozeman, MT is a nice central location. I might be able to make that drive... :)

We should set up a google map or something where we can place pins of our locations and see if clusters form. This is a great idea. I'm not a computer guy so please don't point fingers at me to get this ball rolling. I know someone out there knows how to do this. come on... don't be shy. It's your moment to shine!

It's just too late in the year for this thread ;) I already have the big races for the year picked out. Vineman (the non-70.3 one) and TTT California -- so if anyone wants to come to California.... :)

There is a members map that was populated pretty well last year. I think if you look up members there's a tab for it there

Another vote for the Florida Gulf Coast. I've raced the majority of the races here, so run suggestions by me. Lets start with a time frame- when?? We've got solid races throughout the year.

I could make anywhere in the southeast or KY, IL, IN, VA. I live in Nashville, so I'm pretty central...

I go to FL alot tho so I'd be down for that.

Are registrations still open for some of these races though?

I'm in for a Virtual or Midwest. There are plenty of local races and some big name ones as well in the Chicago and Madison area.

I think a virtual tri would be great fun, in addition to or instead of specific races. I'd love to hear about the courses everyone chooses! Google Maps and Google Earth makes it easy to plan pretty exact distances too.

I have Boulder Peak penciled in on my schedule, could be a good option.
