"There is no chance I will cancel. If you don't show please do not expect a refund. I will be there this weekend even if there is 18 inches of snow and it is freezing rain sideways. Everyone is welcome to join me and have fun."

It is a little tongue in cheek since it is a FA event so nobody should expect a refund since we aren't paying for it. ;-)
Sounds like a challenge!

i hope the weather's good!
that's tough stuff in nice weather!
Good luck. Hopefully the heavy stuff won't be coming down until you are finished.

Yu guys are tuff! Have a blast!:)
Well the event was supposed to be a 50k for me, divided over 3 loops.
It was a FA event held in Watchung Park, which has some pretty good rolling hills.
Thursday night I was feeling a little funky.
Friday It got funkier. I was in the bathroom quite frequently.
I was eating bananas and drinking gatorade and it helped a little.
Saturday morning was cold(22 degrees).
I packed my cooler and running stuff in the car and got to the parking lot at the start about an hour early. It gave me a chance to hit the bathrooms.
The event started on time at 8:00 am, with about 100 people.
On the first loop I had to stop 5 or 6 times, luckily I was able to find a suitable sport or a porta potty.
Even luckier was the fact I packed TP and some wipes.
I ran with a couple of people for a while and missed the trail mark at some point.
I think where it split off for the marathon and I went the other way I went to far the other way.
So I got on a different trail and got a couple of miles extra in my loop.
I checked in at the end of the first extended loop and was able to visit a real bathroom(with heat) at the park center.
I was a little sore and my stomach was still rumbly and I started the second loop.
I was a few miles in and had to stop and drop again. Last wipe and scrap of TP were gone.
There was a cut back to the center of the park and I visited the bathroom again.
I decided that it wasn't getting better and I wasn't absorbing enough nutrition to get me thru the rest of this loop and one more after that.
I checked back in at the table and told them I was done for the day.
Since it was a FA and I brought my own supply of drinks and nutrition which I no longer needed, I left them my remaining bottles of gatorade, water and my gels and bars for the rest of the runners.
My first DNF, ;-P
As I drove off I was feeling crappy and crappy about my decision, and was second guessing myself.
I got about 5 minutes away and I felt the gurgling in my stomach again.
I was in clench mode until I was able to pull over to the first gas station and rush into their bathroom.
I still felt crappy physically, but not so bad about the DNF.
Thankfully the park is only about 20 minutes from my house.
When I got home I had to rush to the bathroom again.
After cleaning up I spent the day eating a few bananas and drinking gatorade and water, and of course rushing to the bathroom.
I am feeling a little better so there are fewer trips to the potty.
It just wasn't meant to happen this weekend. ;-)

You made the right choice. A 50K in any weather has got to be tough. In Saturday's weather it had to be an extreme effort. If your stomach is upset and you are not holding fluids it would have been dangerous to continue.
Hope you are back to normal soon.

I guess you could say it was a 'sh!t' day!
As far as getting 'back to normal', maybe physically in a day or 2. ;-D

sorry to hear it didn't go as planned
hope you're recovering ok!
good decision. sorry you felt crappy :(
Crappy indeed!
Everything else was going well, but I was feeling like I was going to bonk in the near future just before I called it a day.

Sorry for the rough day, butt, you made the right call.
what a load of crap! (that was in you, I mean ;)
Hey so how many times did you have to stop and go in the writing of that race report?
Hope the rumbling dies down soon!

You get the credit for starting it, jtrimom, with your "crappy" comment.

I think you're crazy for attempting a 50K in 22-degree temps to start with! Regardless...you have 100 bigger fish to fry...but not til your gut settles down!
(Note to self: bring Wet Ones to my next race...)

The cold really didn't bother me.
I did bring a bunch of wet ones with me, and tp.
However I used them all up in the 15 or so miles I did run
