So, Tues @ the Y, after i finished my swim, I met a triathlete that was taking her kids swimming. I was talking to her and told her about the race i was gonna do, and she said it was very unorganized and told me about a sprint series in panama city beach. I decided to do the series instead of the oly race. The season has a race @ the end of april and may, and then a race at the beginning of sep and oct. I think this is the way my races will be:

April-C(my first tri)
May-B(want to improve on it)
Sep-C/B(i'm gonna have fun w/ it, and use it as a training day. i don't care about my finish time quite so much)
Oct-A(this is the big race of the season. I've trained hard all season, done everything right, I am going for 1st place, even though its not likely that I'll get it.)

Now that I actually have a series of races and a goal, I'm ready to start the season!

and I don't think I'll be doing an oly race anytime soon. I like going as fast as I can the whole time.

Getting in a season of sprints isn't a bad idea...you'll certainly go fast if that's what you like...Later on you'll get sucked into longer stuff...where you can go as fast as you can the whole time!

N.B. Your plan sounds good, but always do your home work on a race...I'd be hesitant to change a whole season based on one other persons perception.
Have fun and looking forward to that "first tri" race report.

Good for you! Sounds like a reasoned and well-thought out approach. And, it's important to know that you like the shorter faster stuff. Our neighbor does too, and then doesn't understand why my husband (who prefers HIM and IM) doesn't want to do all-out, redline 20mi training rides with him. Or tries to hammer 50mi rides at the same pace as his 20mi workouts.

Point being, that no distance is better than another...it's more what you like and what works for you. good luck with your season!

3 months off between races might drive you crazy. Every summer I have almost 9 weeks off between my 1st race and 2nd race and it is a killer. It is going to happen again this year. I can't fit a tri into my schedule so I usually go for a local 5K, but maybe you can find one in July to keep you sharp for your September race.

That's true. A sample size of 1 isn't very representative. Get more feedback. But to your OP, tri 'series' are fun because at the end of the series you can see how did against all of the other people who entered and get a really good 'big' picture.

Maybe, but maybe they like time to reflect and improve. I take two years between races (IM 04, 06, 08, next is 2010).
