I am wondering if anyone else has problems with swim trunks (jammers) wearing out after about 3 months use swimming in the pool 2-3 times per week. I have used TYR and Speedo with the same results. With my last pair, I stopped using the spin machine at the pool to dry them and just roll them up in a towel. They have lasted about 4 months, but are starting to wear thin. I always rinse them well in the shower after swimming. Is this typical for them to only last 3-4 months?

I don't know about jammers, but lycra suits for my typically last only a few months. A couple of years ago I started buying 100% polyester suits like Speedo's Endurance line of fabrics, and they will go a year or more.

+1 Ironmom ... lycra will only last a few months while polyester lasts much longer. I prefer the lycra suits and just order from the "grab bag" so they are cheap.

I rinse them out and don't give up on them until part are hanging out.
So what if they are practically transparent? ;-)
You can wear 2 worn out pairs for drag too.

It seems normal enough around here. The kids at the Kokanee swim club who swim 2hrs daily 5 days/week are often seen wearing two suits - the outer one looking like a rag, with holes here and there.

Chlorine eats spandex.

+2 you will be sick of a poly suit before it breaks down. Lycra only if you are competing in a pool--but thats me.

Another vote for polyester. I am sick of them but they won't die. They may be gaining strength.

I'm all for the poly suits as well.
Although, lately all my swimming has been stationary and I don't care what my neighbors think.

I had the same problem with jammers only lasting a few months. I finally started using poly jammers and have been pleased. They do stretch out. I also stoppe using the spinning (de waterer) I think those things eat up suits.

I had the same problem: After having to replace my jammers every few months, I bought Speedo Endurance poly jammers and I've used them for over a year. The feeling is not as comfortable as lycra - they are tighter and don't really stretch to adjust to your body- but they last forever.

Its a device that allows you to hook yourself to the side of the pool (sorta with a bungee cord) and swim in a stationary spot. Best for people training in very small pools. Check out this site for a picture. http://www.swimriptide.com/

Is it effective? Does it mess with your body position? (ie make it artifically easier/harder to stay level) I was condsidering using a belt and a bungie when I go on vacation in a couple of months in a small resort pool. I figured my legs would sink in that arangement and blow the effect. I was going to give a shot though. This thing looks really clever.

The poly suits are quite durable. I also wear the brief-style and square cut style suits in poly, but also find the nylon tyr suits very durable. I have a couple of different suits and just switch them out after each swim and that prolongs the life of the suits. I also thoroughly rinse the suits in cold water and hang them up to air dry after each swim.

My tri-shorts and tri suit are the lycra kind and have never been in chlorinated water because the chlorine will quickly deteriorate the material.
