+1 I love this book. Very training focused and scientific. I built an Excel based training log based on Friel's yearly planning process and the ABC race priorty system he describes. I think Trifuel has an article on this on thier home page.

For running: 'The Daniels Formula' by Jack Daniels. Great for figuring out tempo run and interval paces
For swimming: 'Triathalon Swimming Made Easy: The Total Immersion Way' by Terry Laughlin.

Agree completely with the comment about "The Triathlete's Training Bible." That is a great resource, and the nice thing about it is that it serves as an invaluable source that can be referenced long after the initial reading. I find myself going back to it repeatedly, particularly as I develop training plans. I also recommend Joe Friel's "The Cyclist's Training Bible" as a really solid book that offers a tremendous wealth of cycling-specific (obviously) information. "The Complete Triathlon Book" by Matt Fitzgerald of Triathlete Magazine (and other fame) is another solid source.
