This weather is getting ridiculous!
PoC, you need a vacation! Get yourself some tix and get out of there! (btw, it is really pretty up there, but glad I don't have to live in it)
That which does not kill me makes me faster...
That's the same picture of my weather here that I have seen for the last three months. Fun huh?
It's 54 F here right now, and the sky is soooo blue. About to go ride... Sorry PoC :) But I do have a guest room ;)

So sorry! But the snow sure is purty!:) Do what my sis does in Bellingham,Wa cross country
ski!Jealous!
I feel ya PoC. It IS ridiculous. How about some seasonal changes for crying out loud! It s so hot/ cold here it messes with you. Like this week- its been 80 degrees and no rain. I hate needing a bunch of bottles on my ride in January!

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
Thank godness I missed most of it here the last few weeks (it was sunny and mid 80's where we were) --heading to Florida in a few days to miss some more :)
Geoff--TAKE A VACATION!!!!!
do the warm weather dance!! duhh

looks like you'll be stuck on the trainer/treadmill for awhile. And I thought I had it bad when it snowed ten inches here. Snowshoeing is always an option I guess
Just got back in from mowing the lawn. Yes, mowing the freaking lawn in January. Not just a touch up, either, I had to do the whole deal, mowing, weed eating and edging. Not supposed to have to mow yards in January.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
Okay, it's past ridiculous. How am I supposed to ride 'n run in this?
PoC
On the bright side you have more time and energy for Core workouts.
Can you run with snowshoes or is it not worth the effort?
Today in PA it got up to 42 F and it felt wonderful.

Mowing the lawn! Sounds great.
We had an ice storm come through.
So, I was out hauling and spreading sand for the horses by hand.
They were about to hurt themselves just trying to walk on the ice.
Needed some cartoon sound effects watching them.

<-- NOT a horse fan ;) My step dad let my little sister get into horses. Shes grown and moved out of the house, and theyre stuck with one left. He is constantly bitching about how much work he has to do for the horse. I dont get the complaining- they were his idea! I cant wait for summer to roll around and he has to be out there mucking the stall! Ha ha ha!

C? kph? I'm so confused. If you choose to live in Canada, are you allowed to complain about the cold? :)
How about a little cross-training: Pond hockey!

I love penticton! I've been there like 3 or 4 times to watch family members do IM Canada. Of course, that is always in August. Ever ride up to Apex?
Hello littleironhead,
No, when I go to Penticton I go to ride the IMC course.
For hill climbing practice I ride Silver Star Mtn, which is on my doorstep here in Vernon - which is 115kms north of Penticton.
Perhaps we'll see you race at IMC one day soon?
Bring on the Spring.

POC, I feel your pain.
I think I've shoveled about 10 feet of snow. At least it felt like that much. My dog is going to the bathroom on the deck because his feet can't touch the ground through the snow.
And now it's supposed to rain here on Thursday. Looks like I'll be skating to work on Friday.
I'm a proud Canadian, and would love to tell everyone in Jamacia or California, or Florida ect. about it. (In person)
Cheers.
I live with a proud Canadian, who does miss Canada -- just not Canadian February weather :)

I was in Edmonton for Christmas...
Got off the plane and it was -32C (-25F), with the windchill a brutal -40C!
I'm not usually a chicken about the cold, but I decided to have an indoor track day until it "warmed up" to -25C (-13F)!
Heck of a country we've got here. :)
jono
Indoor track day. jono? Did you run in the yellow submarine?
That 200m bright yellow inflatable dome at U of A.?
I have run myself dizzy there before. Back in 1980 I ran a 6:00 min mile on that track.
I was going so fast on those tight bends that I nearly fell off! heh.
hipfan, Taber isn't known as a snow belt is it? I thought it was pretty dry down there.
This morning I shoveled another 6" to 8" off my driveway this morning. Bah!
One thing all this core work is good for is shoveling snow!
Socket, the depth of snow is waaayyyy beyond chains here. More like this:

Kwschs, where is it you live again? :)

Nope, went to the Kinsmen Center in Edmonton. Check this out - Indoor olympic-sized pool with all-day lane swim. Ooooh yeah. I went three times, and every time I had an entire 50m lane to myself... best Christmas gift ever. :)
(BTW - I don't know if they still have that dome at the U of A, I think it's been replaced by the Butterdome, a permanent facility. Still yellow though!)
jono
Butterdome, yeah, that's the one. Yellow sub was just an alternative name from long ago.
50m lane by yourself? Sounds great.
Remember last Feb. when I had a swim lane 25m wide and 10 kilometres long? Yeah, I said 10k.
Here, I have a pic somewhere. Yeah, here it is:

You sure can complain! Just because you chose the location doesn't mean that you chose the weather. However, I'd fully expect to get a lot of flack for complaining about the weather if I did choose to live there.
Here is your solution, if you have enough snow to call off the running, go SKI! YEAH SKI SKI SKI! SKI EVERY DAY! Ride your trainer at night.
You could try one of these:
I could, but my wife would get mad.
Maybe I'll try one of those bikes instead! ;-)

I hear ya. I'm in Anchorage, AK and we've been below 0F for two weeks straight. Not one minute above. Most days have been a high of -10F. They said on the news this is the longest cold streak in 30-40 years or some such.
I think my trainer might break soon..... I've been treadmilling and indoor tracking a bit, buut really love to run during the winter , just not when its this cold.... :(
