What is the benefit of attending a training camp? There is a 3 day camp in my area every March and I have thought of going but I am not sure what benefit people look for when they go to something like that. I figure that people who need to get motivated at the begining of the year get a kick start and beginners learn a lot of valuable info all in one place, but for someone with a few years under his or her belt what is there to gain? Is it mostly social? Are the training sessions that much more productive than regular training with my normal riding or running group? Of course I am stating all this from the standpoint of someone who has not had a problem with motivation yet and I know the educational aspects vary widely among camps. Just though it would be great to here from those who have attending a camp.

A lot of times it has to do with being able to train in a warm area. I am thinking about going somewhere in Feb. and or March so I can ride my bike on the road.

I've done a few camps, but they were mostly connected with swimming...in a vain attempt to keep me form sinking like a stone. ;)
Some folks I know have done camps connected with specific races (IMLP, IMoo) and they thought they were great...course preview, race day tips and others to commiserate with...If I were doing a camp, it would be that type. Other than that I'm not a big social butterfly so I don't see a reason to go to one.
All that said...we always think "I've got this down...I won't learn much." But I'm sure that you'd take away something of value...
