I signed up for this race and was wondering if anyone was familiar with that area. This is my first half and I would like to know what the bike course is like. Most of the areas I've been to in Louisiana seem pretty flat. I'm pretty early into my tri adventure and I'm week on hills. Just wondering what I got myself into hehe.

I'm from New Orleans and can tell you the only hills we have are overpass bridges. Both the bike and run are very flat.

Great thanks for the quick response. Now all I need to do is overcome my fear of being dressed like a seal and swimming in waters where there are potentially sharks. I get creeped out just swimming in the lake but I don't mind in races as much with the safety in numbers thing.

the swim should be pretty easy. Lake Pontchatrain has few, if any, sharks and those that occasionally stray into the lake are small and timid. The swim is point to point and only 30 yards off the shore. The other piece of good news is the water quality in the lake is really good (this wasn't always true). All in all, I like this swim much better than an ocean swim with jellyfish! Thanks for coming to New Orleans, it's a great city.

As a former resident, I too can attest to the flatness of the course. And the swim isn't in salt water, so don't worry about sharks. It is Lake Pontchartrain, so worry about gators.

If you look at the google map of the bike course it has a total bike leg elevation, 27 feet of climbing!! I posted a New Orleans deal a couple months ago and TriSooner was so nice as to send an arial view of 'the Ponch' enjoy looking at that photo, bring clear goggles and a bouy knife for the gators =)
