Ok guys, I am officially back in the market to get a new bike to replace my poor, stolen Scott. There is an LBS in my area that has some overstock in P2's and I'm liken' em. My question is - I can get an 08 P2 for $1500 and an 09 for $2000. What are the big differences between these two frames assuming both bikes are Ultegra? I'm going to the store in a few days but I'd prefer to bring some ammo with me, if you know what I mean. Thanks guys!

I have a 2008 P2C which I also got a discounted price last year. Here are a couple things to look for and consider. 1) color choice, probably the least important here, but if you aren't happy with that you will always be second guessing. 2) Probably the largest change would be the 3T Funda fork. This fork is starting to come on most all P2C's now, however, Cervelo did change back and forth from the 3T and the Wolf CL throughout 2008. The 3T is significantly lighter and reportedly more aero. However, I have the CL, and I can't complain. Just check to see which fork comes on the two year models you are looking at. Other than that, check the Cervelo website to see the component listing of each, though Cervelo could always change which components they send with the bike, or your LBS could switch a couple of the components. But as long as you have the component listing for both years, you should be able to make an educated buy.

My opionion, save the $500 and put it towards upgrades, the fork doesnt change the ride that much nor will any of the other components if they are changed.

yeah, go with the '08 and $500 in toys to trick it out. go wireless computer, carbon bottle cages, aero helmet etc.

Frame is the same, Ultegra components are the same. The Ultegra bike is essentially unchanged. Get the '08. This is $1500 for the '08 P2C (i.e. a 1k savings off retail, or $1,200 less than the near identical '09)? I'd buy their complete stock at that price and sell 'em off on craigslist.

Go the 08, and negotiate on all the upgrades. Its a buyers market.

If you can get a P2 for $1500, I only have one question for you. What is the name of that bike shop?

A-ha. Either it was an error or someone did exactly what xcrunner suggested there are no more 08's listed on the website and the 09's are now approaching $2400.

Store is SMB in manhattan by the by, I'm hedging my odds that with all those type A finance professional/triathetes out of work in the NYC area bikes are going to start creeping down in price over the dead of winter. I shall bide my time.

All of the 09's are considerably expensive across the board... Industry Markup! Get the 08 while you can!

My own .02 is the Cervelo's are great bikes,, after riding most of the newer TT bikes out there ,, I found I was too compacted breathing while on the P2 and or P3,, the Felt I just didnt like,, best fits for me were the Cannondale Slice and the Jamis Xenith T1,, went with the Jamis and love almost everything about it (except the brakes) ,,, I am fortunate that I have several good Tri shops near where I live in So Cal ,,
My wife is getting a QR Lucero for Christmas,, she rode several ,, thought the P2 had the nicest paintjob but could never get comfortable on it ,, she felt faster and more comfortable on the QR so I guess I am saying if possible test ride test ride test ride,, then narrow down from there.. good luck,, ride safe ride hard
