2003 Cervelo P3
I am 6'3" and weigh 208 lbs. I ride a 61 Cervelo P3 and think it is the best bike I have ever ridden. It is comfortable and makes the transition to the run much easier. Great bike, you will not be sorry.

any thoughts on the P2k? debating about getting a triathlon bike when I am a total beginner or buying a friends bike (which is also a great bike and much cheaper) I just know that I will want the better bike in the long run but it is not a pratical purchase. I guess my main concern is that I will look stupid riding this nice new bike when I am just hoping to finish the race and not fall over. I know in other sports it is not really cool to buy nice equipment and not use it properly. Any thoughts.....
thanks
It's all about you 3 aces. Are you crossing that finish line for self satisfaction or are you crossing it for others?
Hopefully the answer is for you! So what does it matter what others think! I know personally I have never looked at another's bike and said "how stupid...they have a $5,000.00 bike and they are only going 12mph"(probably becasue they were passing me...LOL)!
So with that said, if money is not the issue, go for the nicer of the two (better frame and components).
Hope that helps!

Your absolutely right. I am just trying to justify the expense when all the advice sections say start with a used bike and see if you will like it. Well I already know that I love the training and all the gear is so cool to look at....I think I am hooked and I have not even competed!
thanks
I really did not understand your statement clearly, I thought that you were debating bikes and that you were hesitant to purchase the nicer bike becasue you were newer to the sport and you did not want people to look at you funny.
The advise to wait is very accurate! However, If money is not an issue, and you are fortunate to start with nicer things, go for it . Worst case scenerio, you have to sell all your gear becasue you don't use it. There will always be a market for nice used gear! I am in the market for a nice used bike right now.
To sum up my advise, Don't worry about what others think, If you have the money to invest in a nice bike and you love to ride do it.
Others may have different opinions!

3aces - If you got the cash, go with whatever bike you want.
But do you intend on using your bike in training, too? Though hilly country? 95% of your riding is going to be while training. I know I wouldn't want to be doing all my training on a tri-bike through the hills. So make sure you've got all your bases covered.

I'm surprised at how many P3's I saw yesterday at the Strawberry Fields tri in Oxnard. It was a local sprint and I must have seen at least a half dozen of them. Very sexy bike (and expensive!).
I have a 2004 P3 and love it. It is amazingly fast and smooth. My opinion, this bike is a bargain for in comparsion to its competitors. However, I would recommend making sure the bike is fitted properly. This will be extremely beneficial if your thinking about longer races. Otherwise, the P3 comes with my highest recommendation.
