Professional Athlete? Assistance needed

To have a pro license typically. You get those through applying to USAT for one based on the fact that you are pushing the sport to grow and of course racing like you own the place.
I was reading on this page for Ironman 70.3 New Orleans about accreditation and I was wondering exactly what it meant to be a "Professional Athlete".
