I've read glowing reviews for both bikes. Which would be the better buy for an entry level tri bike on a budget? I found an S32 selling for $850 that is 2 years old, very low mileage, or should I save money for an S22? Thanks

I bought a "new" 2006 S32 just over a year ago, for $700. I guess you'd be buying the newer style S32 which I think has a steeper seat angle and some other updates. Anyway, I've been happy (though not overjoyed) with my purchase. For the money though, I don't think I could have done better. I've only raced it twice, but have enjoyed riding it other times and have become accustomed to riding a lot in the aero position. I could have spent twice that for a Cervelo or Equinox or S22 (or B22) ... but for me, on a budget, not trying to get to Kona or anything (yet), it has worked out well. I'd say save your money for another bike in a few years, once you really see where your involvement in triathlon goes.

I have had the S32 since Sept 2006. The only thing I have changed out on it were the aerobars because they are a bit heavy. Otherwise, since it is still 85% rider and 15% bike, I will continue to ride my S32 until I get too fast.

I ride an 07' S22 and love it. Ive riden other full carbon bikes and think that my bike is a stiffer ride then many of them. I have a DA (mix) build group (standard) on mine so I know my components are top notch. If you plan on being involved in the sport your going to be spending more time on your bike then anything else. I say invest a little money so your not in the situation of being "not overly enjoyed" Your not going to be saving a TON of time by jumping to this bike or that while your just beginning but youll save a TON of time if you put the miles in because you enjoy riding the bike you purchase. You can always try and negotiate a little off the price, keep an eye on ebay and craigslist or many local tri clubs have there own website that posts gear and such for sale. Good luck!

My local shop has S32's for $1k, a real blow-out price for 2008 models. I ride an S-32 and find it to be an excellent value, in hindsight I should have saved for a P-2. The S-32 weighs 21.5 w/o pedals and to me this is a little heavy. I've loaded it with weight savings parts and cannot get it below 19lbs. Those frames are beefy!! I've also seen S-32's on different sites for around $1150. Good luck shopping!

+1 to all of the above. I also have the S22 & love it. I test-rode some all-carbon bikes & liked the S22 best. Depending on the year, I think the S22 comes with better components and has a slightly more aero frame. The S22 appears to have been discontinued, so you should be able to find a good deal.
