trunk rack

Just bought a trunk rack for my bike and car and I was wondering when you guys/gals travel with your bike on it, do you take the front wheel off? leave everything on and maybe bungie the front wheel to prevent swinging? or just leave it alone? i just upgraded to a tri bike so I want to take good care of it! thanks in advance!!

When I use a rear rack I bungee it or otherwise attach it -- stop it from spinning (extra wear on the bearnings, from what I understand). I will take off the back wheel if I have a disk on the bike.

+1 I don't use one any more (different car) but always just bungee'd it with my old car.

I used to use one on my mr2 (funniest damn thing youll ever see) and always bungie'd both wheels, one to stop the front wheel from smacking my car, and the other to stop the pedals from scraping it if the rear wheel turned. its a quick easy step to insure your paintjob's safety.

[/quote] Awesome! And to the OP, I use a Saris Bones, wheel-on, with bungee.

I leave the wheels on and un-bungee'd, but then I haven't used it with my racing bike yet...

Hope she's got a decent rack 'cuz nothing else'll fit in that trunk with all that junk in there ;-)

My Thule rack it attached to the bumber of my truck but it is the same concept.
I attach a small bungee to one pedal, thru the from wheel, and then to the other pedal.
I run another another around the bike to the rack and it catches the back tire to keep it from moving.

I think that would be "Junk in the trunk" ;-)
