I am looking for the thread (sorry) that talked about the GPS for phone that would log miles on the run verses the Garmin. I've been out of the loop about a week and cannot remember at the moment.

It also talked about the phone services that were compatible.

Thanks in advance if someone can remember.

This is the post :
http://www.trifuel.com/forum/16252/just-an-idea
the site is www.bimactive.com
You have to subscribe to the feature on your phone(if your phone is GPS compatable) for Verizon it is $5.00 month plus the fee on bimactive.com (think it was another $5.00). I am too cheap to do that :)

Let us know how it works

I have an Iphone and they have a bunch of apps that records all your activity. I use Trailguru, The cost is the same as the iphone data plan.

Gotta lose that head fat.

I use Imapmyrun on the iPhone. It's free, I think.

I hate to ask what will result in an obvious answer, but you run with your phone? I only ask b/c I am eligible for an upgrade and was thinking about the iPhone. If it has training-related bells and whistles, then maybe so. So the iPhone has apps that map a GPS-type route? It doesn't have speed/distance apps, does it?

I run in the boonies and just in case, I like to know I can reach my husband or dad for help. And, then there is the kid that wants to be able to call me. It is available I will use it:)

If you are concerned about safety, and you slog a lot of miles in the backcountry, SpotMessenger is one that will track your route, elevation gain, etc, and let loved ones know where you are - realtime.

Phones are great if you are in an area that has service. I'm finding that I am unable to record as much as I like (using the bimactive service), simply because there are gaps in towers.

safe training!

I have gaps in coverage with the iPhone, too.

To answer Trisooner a couple of days late, I run with my phone if I am running a new route. Remeber, the iPhone is also an iPod. Once I have the route's distance established via GPS I just use my HR monitor on subsequent runs. You can go to iTunes and view all of the apps, there are a ton under the exercise/fitness section. Some are cool, some not.

That is good to know thanks. There are spots where I don't get service.
