Best rides/runs in America
If Boulder is on your trip list, you can find many amazing runs/rides here. Rides to Jamestown, Ward, Carter Lake, Raymond. Run the Mesa Trail or Wonderland Lake Trail. And in the summer swim at Scott Carpenter pool with the triathlon elite.
But Boulder is a great place to stretch your limits - if you come out here to run and bike let loose and go longer than you normally do.
Good luck with your college choice!
a great thing to do on a college visit is run around campus! if by indiana you mean IU there are some good hilly networks of trails within 2 miles of campus.
Well, I don't know if you're planning on going north at all, but you can't beat Pre's Trail here in Eugene, Oregon (aka Tracktown USA) for a historic run. While you're here, be sure to stop by Pre's Rock as well.
For best bike ride in Oregon, it would be darn hard to beat the 30-mile Rim Drive at Crater Lake. Over 7,000' feet in elevation, with stunning views at every turn, 3,800' of climbing. It's been called the best bike ride in North America by more than a few riders.

the blue ridge parkway (runs from Tennessee to Virginia) is an amazing place to ride. it is a national park (yes the road is a national park) and there are camp grounds about every 50-60 miles. the southern part of the road, once you get into north Carolina, is pretty hilly. there are not too many cars, but usually a lot of motorcycles. i rode from DC to Winston-Salem in mid May and the weather was great and it only rained for about half a day. i highly suggest at least riding some of the road. also, it continues north into the Shenandoah national forest as the skyline drive. there is a book about it called "biking the blue ridge parkway" that details the trip, elevation, camp sites, etc.
If you swing by the nation's capital, to me one of the most beautiful runs is around the National Mall and out the Memorial Bridge to Arlington Cemetery and back. The whole run is only about 6-7 miles including the bridge. But watching the sun crest behind the stark whiteness of the monuments and Capitol Building is simply breathtaking. There are lots of things about living in DC that are a pain, but I continue to be awed by the beauty of it.
If you make it through South Dakota, the Black Hills and Badlands would be awesome on a bike. When I rode to Sturgis on my motorcycle, all I could think about was that I would have rather had my bicycle than my Harley.

I'll second that recommendation. I took these on a run on that exact route last March, and it was just a very beautiful and inspiring run. I highly recommend taking a moment alone with Mr. Lincoln in the morning. The effect of that monument at dawn without all the usual crowds moved me to tears.

The view on the lakefront path in Chicago aint so bad during the summer. Oh, and the lake and skyline are picturesque, too.
I would have to agree with xc800. There are just no words to describe the Chicago lakefront in during the summer and there is just so much motivation all around you.
If your in NYC nothing is better than Central Park.
Gotta lose that head fat.
Boulder to the top of Rocky Mountain National Park and would be an awesome ride. I know its regularly done by locals out there, but my flatlander lungs and legs cant pull it off out there. Ive driven it, though. Awesome scenery. Pretty much anything in Utah is breath taking. 10 mile run/ hike/ scramble? Angel's Landing in Zion. Life changing. Do it. Scared of heights? Get over it. Worth it.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

I am about to graduate high school and go off to college. Over the summer, I am planing on doing a cross country road trip from Arizona to either Massachusetts, New York, or Indiana, depending on the college I choose to go to. I would like to hear what the best rides and runs are that I should try to do while on my trip. For running my limit is about 10 miles and for biking my limit is about 50.
