Need some advice
Don't even think about racing two weeks before IM Brasil.
The taper is all about restoring energy, not testing yourself.
I'm doing IM Canada Aug 28. I may jog a 10K alone, the previous Sunday but nothing longer that close to raceday.
I'm planning a Marathon May 22nd - 98 days prior to IM raceday.
You can't do anything extra in your final 2 weeks before an IM that will improve your performance, but you can do lots of things that will ruin it.

Thanks Prince!! Thats what I was thinking, I just didn't want to go into the race cold not having completed a race prior to it.

Rule of thumb is that a 1/2 IM shouldn't be done closer than 6 weeks out from your IM.
Now if you wanted to do a shorter race, if you can find an Oly or sprint that weekend, that would be fine. You could use it as a speed workout just to sharpen you up for the final 2-week taper. You can still do a long ride the day before, and you'll be surprised at how well you do at a shorter distance at the peak of IM taper.
Hey PoC
I heard that normally you'll need about 20-30 days of rest or very easy training after a marathon run in order for your body to fully recover. That's one of the reasons I can't do an marathon, since the one's near San Diego are at the same time as tri season and I could not sacrafice that many days off during the season! Is this wrong information???

That is true, the rule of thumb is for every mile of a marathon is usually a day off. Now if you are in pretty good shape you may be able to come back a little quicker but not that much. Your body really needs that time to heal after the trauma from a marathon. Most people if they do marathon and they are triathletes they do them in their off season.

Cedric, Ibgenaro,
I have heard about recovery periods too.
But when I did Ironman in 2003 I was concerned to know if I could still do a marathon at age 51, so I did the Peach City Marathon. The front half took 2 hours. The home leg took three!
Below is my training log from 2003. I looked it up to see what effect the marathon had on my training after the marathon. I think it had no effect at all.
In the 7 days following I did two 10K and one 16K run at my usual pace: 6minutes/km. I felt pretty good according to my diary.
I think it's because I did not run the marathon very fast. I was dog tired, but not the deep muscle fatigue you get from fast running for a long distance. I think I had that once. lol. :)

Usually before triathletes complete an Iron distance race they have a/some pre-race(s) in the season to help guage their fitness. I'm doing IM Brazil 29 May, and I would love to do an 1/2 Iron distance this season ( I did one last year) prior to my race but the Army has maxed my calendar out except for 14-15 May. Do you think this is too close to my race to use this 1/2 IM as a precersor and I recover in enough time? Any advice is welcomed, even newbies :p
