So I'm getting ready to begin my 20 week program (starting 11/17) which I hope to deliver me to Oceanside HIM in major PR - level fitness. I'm wondering if anyone has followed this plan and what they thought of the results.

One major caveat to my situation is 90% of my rides this winter will be done on the trainer as I live in MN and am a major wimp when it comes to frostbite.

Any advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I used Matt's plan to train for Vineman last year. It was my first 70.3 and I met my goal so it worked for me! It isn't very specific - mostly tells you how much time to spend on each discipline so it should work fine for indoor work. I'm not sure how you simulate hills on the trainer but I guess you just push a bigger gear or something.

I am also racing Oceanside and may end up using it again, too although I'm also considering a plan from Endurance Nation.

Looks like a good plan to me. I'll have to bookmark.

Good luck training indoors. I'd get about two weeks into it before death by boredom would strike.

Yeah, I'm (as of right now at least) driven like a madman. My first IM is scheduled for Sept next year and after watching all of them people cross the line in a near vegetative state I decided I wanted to do the suffering ahead of time.

I like the quote.

jhudalla. read tthe article on the Trifuel home page about High Intensity Training.

I'm going to look in to that for winter training. I'd rather get totally trashed in a really hard 30 minute trainer workout than spend 2 hours just sort of sweating and panting.

I read that article. I was considering the effectiveness of it. It seems as though Andy Potts follows a similar strategy. I read an article (so it must be true) that he rarely bikes more than 2 hrs or runs more than 1 hr. He does swim alot, but that's kinda his bag.

There are lots of resources for free or low cost training plans. Begginer Triathlete has some, you can guy one of Gale Bernhardt's books or any number of other training books, trinewbies has a free plan, Endurance nation sells plans, Mark Allen On-line sells plans, active.com sells a plan for $35, Training Peaks sells a plan. They're everywhere!

Once again, I endorse Matt's plan. It worked. I was pretty flexible with it so that I could train with friends but I got in the target amount of time for each discipline and that's what counted. When I was exhausted and thought I needed a rest I would just stick with the plan and I got much, much stronger. I went from always coming in 2nd or 3rd to last in every race I did to being solidly in the middle of every race (I mean the exact middle - it was uncanny).

ok TriOnLIfe, I'll trust you. It looks like a decent plan. The most important part is just being consistent and this looks like a good plan.

Think I'm going to go with the plan on Tri Newbie. Seems to be a little more structued than the one on this site.

This seems like a decent plan. Last winter I went with the "lets do what I feel like doing" when resulted in me biking 6 days a week, running and swimming once ... so this will be an improvement
