I love fall, I decorate for Halloween (lights, pumpkins, etc) so the neighbors know it's safe to bring their kids by (since we don't have any. Typically I can easily stay away from candy. Tonight however as I sit here waiting for hubby to get home, I hear the chocolate for the kids calling to me. I don't even LIKE candy. Normally I try and get stuff I NEVER would eat, but this year I decided if I don't want it, why would the kids?
HELP! MAybe I should just eat an apple.

Eat the apple and look for the dark chocolate, and have yourself a nice long run tomorrow. ;-)

I can never get over how much discipline you all have - With training, I'm pretty good, but when it comes to all the delicious foods I am an ultimate failure! What do you all do when Thanksgiving and Christmas comes around? :-)

Ok, got all of 10 kids here-- and a huge costco bag of candy sits on my counter. Hubby will be taking it to work!!! Did ok, only had 3 pieces.

Jwilla- Its HARD but usually (and this year is no different) I am training for a January marathon so that helps a lot. I am not a sweets person, so candy usually does nothing for me. Thankfully we never host Thanksgiving and Christmas so there are no left overs and its not toooo bad. This Christmas we will be on a cruise with the entire family, so we shall see how THAT goes. I hear all they do is stuff food in your faces :(

brittda, have a fabulous time on your cruise. Yes, you will be offered amazing food at every turn, but working out on a cruise ship can be awesome. Most ships have a gym with giant windows facing the front of the ship so you can jump on a treadmill and have the most amazing scenery...like you are running on the ocean. Have a great time. I'm jealous!

Thanks! Its actually my first one, my mom is taking our entire family (14 if you can believe it), it will be the first time we have all been together for the holiday for 15 years. I am worried about that whole food thing though, but my motivation will be the Disney World marathon which happens to be a week and a half after we get home so I will HAVE to run. Thankfully it is toward taper time and my longest run will be done right before we leave.
Do you have to run on a treadmill? I mean, don't most of them have a track, do you know?

Wow, I had about 4 or 5 pieces of Halloween candy last night and was pretty happy with my self-control!

Britt -- I'm in the same boat. Costco bag of candy and about 10 kids came by. Last year we ran out of candy, got more, and ran out again. We've moved so had no idea what to expect. Oh, and I also made it with just three pieces.... per kid that came to the door! ;)

Yes, they normally devote one entire deck to a track but it's not always good for training. It is open to everyone, whether they are running or not. I have been on three cruises and I found that the deck track was more like an obstacle course. I was dodging people, kids, deck chairs, etc...plus it was a little slippery. Perhaps your experience will be different? The gyms are always beautiful and you can also go for a run at one of your island stops if you can talk your significant other into watching the kids. Also, there are plenty of healthy food options if you have the discipline.

TonisFirstTri--THANKS for the info. I really didn't have anyone to ask, any friend who has been has not been up for running while on vacation!!! Guess I will have to just see what happens. It's only a week and I can always suck it up and run on a treadmill, although not my first choice.

Kylie- I am bummed, I have been in this house for 13 years and usually get more kids. This year there was rain though so that may have been the problem. I know one of the neighbors said that her grandkids were heading to a party, so maybe the fact Halloween was on a Friday was part of it? All I know is Hubby has a ton of chocolates to take to work (on his bike ahhahahah) on Monday. It's currently hidden away in the spare room. Out of sight, out of mind....

I just declared to my wife that I needed to do a 42 mile training run tomorrow. Too much chocolate (yum) - I can't believe how many calories I've had to eat just this evening...

I do love Halloween, but have learned to really fear it...

Ok, read this and said to myself "self , there is 3/4 of a bag of candy in the guest room, perhaps you need to go get some".
Now a butterfinger and a recees is in my tummy...UGGGGGGGGG

Hahahaha yeah... I'm thinking we should have left it on the porch when we went to bed in hopes that some kid would just take it all.

But the snickers are gone so I'm able to be better now ;) I think we did have the same bag from costco though -- we were excited that it had all good chocolate candy and no "filler candy" but now I'm not so sure.

My 10 year old just told me she feels like she needs to throw up. At first I thought, "oh no! the dreaded stomach flu!" Then I realized this is more likely the result of the Halloween candy I allowed her to have PLUS all the candy she probably sneaked throughout the day. I adore her, and as a loving mom, I kinda hope she does puke just so she realizes that sometimes mom is right! Now to the rest of you, put that candy away and have an apple!

I think I recall last year some sadist donating his leftover Halloween candy to my gym and they put it out in a big bowl in the front- I guess that's one way to get rid of it
