How much does it cost you to swim?
I swim at my local YMCA. Membership is $46 / month and includes full gym membership.
I also swim at my local Y. I wish i could just pay to swim b/c thats all i do there. A membership
just for me cost $350 a year.
I swim at my local (end of my block) Y and it's $84ish/month for myself and my fiance, but I use pretty much everything they have but the squash courts.
An easy solution (that's not quite as easy as actually doing it these days) is to make sure you have a job lined up before you graduate. I was able to land a half decent job a month before graduation through one of my professors and the day after classes ended, I was working. Sure helped the finances.
I pay nothing!! I work at a fitness center and I'm in charge of running the pool. So I get free membership. That's the way to go!
240 for the year that includes a full gym with indoor track, and excellent facilities
working at the pentagon does have its advantages.
It comes out to like $33/month for full gym membership...I spend a lot of time there in the winter so it's worth it...only usually swim like 2x/week, but since it includes treadmills, spin classes, weights, etc... it's a good enough deal
My husband and I use the county high school pools. For county residents it's around $400/yr each. To my mind, pretty steep considering there's no other fitness equipment/gym for that price. We also each pay $50/mo for a gym membership on top of that.
Ive always used the Y's or the community rec centers. Bout 35-40 bucks a month for everything available (weights, pool, cardio, etc.)
Electricity to run and heat the pool--about $150/month in summer--more in winter.
Bally's: $34/month and good at any club nationwide.
Whoa, I must have gotten really luck then. It averages to about 12 bucks a month for me for the first 3 years, then about $2.50 a month after that!
I pre-paid for a membership at 24 hour fitness and it was 450 for 3 years, then 25 bucks a year after that.
I haven't been using it much lately because they just opened a new rec center at my school and I have been using that for free, but when I graduate in a couple months it will be back to stopping by 24 hour fitness.
Until a little while ago I paid $34/month at the local Y before they opened up the pool here on base, now I have a free pool and gym. One of the perks of the military. It did suck when I had to pay for an entire Y membership just to swim 3-4 times a week.
"Pain is temporary. Quitting lasts forever." Lance Armstrong
$35/mo at 24hr Fitness (any club)
$1/swim at our local school and $2/swim at the high school in the next town. Check your local high schools for lap swim times.
approx $50-55 per month at local Y. includes entire facility plus workout classes, which is good for strength training and using treadmill in bad weather. only bad part is that it's not good nationwide and the freakin' kids swim team takes up the pool for two hours everyday when I want to swim after work.
So here is my question: My Y membership was $89/month for just me. How is it so cheap for y'all? Is it different in different Y's??
I swim at 24hr Fitness, all clubs I want (tons in Dallas), for ~$45 per month, or the local Independent School District pool is $2 per swim. But if I really want to splurge and enjoy the co-eds, I go 'outdoor' for the 50meter at SMU (but only if I've recently waxed my back). TMI? You are welcome.
$86.99/month for Boston Sports Club, and thats full access to a home gym and any gym without the real cool stuff (Bball, Squash, etc) For all inclusive its roughly $115/month...
There are two advantages to this ridiculous price, 1. Towel Service 2. I force myself to go, even when its nice out to get my moneys worth.
The rif raf are still there...

I have heard that the Y charges different prices depending on the "economic status" of the people in the neighborhood. A friend of mine says that she joined the Y in the run down part of town because it was cheaper but the membership allows her to use any of the Ys.
Lifetime Fitness just opened a year ago in my neigborhood and I pay $108/month for the whole family and that includes all clases, yoga, gym and outdoor and indoor lap pool. Its worth the price because my wife and I use the place 5-6 days a week each.

Ahhhh well that is not fair :( (I kid) Hmmmm, well with mine I could only use "my" specific Y . To add my husband it was like $135
So i am currently in school and can swim at the Rec center right now it is 60 dollars for a semester so not too bad but my time is coming to an end as will be graduating in DEC. The community pools in Reno are 4 dollars a swim or 35 for a ten punch card and so on depending, i cant really afford to shell out for monthly and annually. I was just interested to see what it costs the rest of the trifuel community to swim and if you swim at home then you are a lucky person.
Our local community pool is about the same cost as you pay.
But on Sat/Sun there is a 2-hour Toonie-swim for everybody and there are two lanes roped off for lap swimmers. Only a handful of people use it at that time because it is noisy and they think the kids will be in the way, but I have found that the kids don't go near the lap lanes because they don't think that is as much fun as the water slide, the rope swing, the paddling pool with the frog spouting fountain etc. and the diving board, so I get to swim pretty much undisturbed for $2 on Sat/Sun from 4:30-6:30pm.
That works for me from Sept. until late June, when I can get in the lakes for free.

$5/visit at any San Diego City Pools...and a huge discount should you buy a 20 visit punchcard for $95...
got my 3 year membership at 24Hr Fitness for $619.
That comes out to about $200/yr for 3 years or less than a buck a day.
After 3 years, it costs about $29 to renew each subsequent year.
I guess that I am really lucky. The local community pool is completely free. I guess it's a trade of for how much more expensive everything else is in Hawaii.

Is this your idea of a local pool?

I pay $100 for a 6 month pass to the local swim center. 50 m, 8 lane (typically 1/2 dedicated to "water aerobics" which annoys me a lot). It's not bad but is in desperate need of updating and there are threats of shutting i it down all the time. :( I don't have anywhere to practice open water swimming though.
But if I really want to splurge and enjoy the co-eds, I go 'outdoor' for the 50meter at SMU (but only if I've recently waxed my back). TMI? You are welcome.
I'm sure it's mutual enjoyment. "Check out lane 4. Looks like a freshly waxed back. Rahhr!"
Our Y is $65/month for a family membership. I use all the other stuff too, so works out great for me and the family.
I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...
looks like i win - i pay more than anyone :( at least i have my health?

well if it makes you feel better in the winter my electric bill is over $300./month :)
You should look into 24 fitness. I only pay $300 for 3 yrs I think and then it is $50/year.

The closest 24 hour fitness with a pool is miles away, I wouldn't use it. I DO use the endless pool, so its worth it. Kids jump on you at the Y and you are subject to the times they have lanes open and other people are not swimming in them.
BTW not complaining. There are other mitigating factors :
1. since I quit my job last year I am home more, so lights are on, clothes washer goes etc
2. even though my fluffy ugg slippers are my best friend I do keep the heat up around 72 starting oh, about now.

Ok, those are CUTE!!! I had a pair of Scooby Do ones --the dog especially liked them. Wore those out though :(
We have a family plan at the Y and that is about $90 a month.
In the Summer we are members at our community pool which is about $350.
'Nothing to it, but to do it!'
family plan at lifetime fitness. roughly 100 per month, and the kids programs and outdoor pool make it worth every penny.
Don't be so easy on yourself 'cause this one might be all that you have left
Check into swimming with a local masters swim team. You don't have to compete as a swimmer, but you will likely get to participate in excellent workouts with other swmmers at your level. Not everyone on those teams are super fast. Lots of times you will also get discounts on using the pool.

I'm a swim coach, so I get my membership at the (private) club for free. I know that if you join the local Master's group, you can get a punch card for workouts that's $2.50 per swim.
In the summer, the lakes are free!
