signed up for my first tri's this summer, going to do the xterra events in my area, 1 each june, july, august.

are you allowed to have a camelbak during the bike and run? i am assuming yes especially since it is off road you'll need some extra tubes, etc. i was on their website and could not find details concerning what you are allowed to carry with you on the bike and run portion.

general question, any thoughts/pointers for a first timer doing the xterra events????

thx for the help.

I am doing my first xterra too. I used my small camel-back last fall during a trail half marathon. It worked good, but it does slosh alot. I am trying a 4 bottle fuel belt this year.

I think I will use a camel backon th ebike portion of the xterra, but I am not sure if I will need any carry on water on th erun. It depends on how many h20 stops they have.

Have fun!

I did Xterra Keystone last year. I wouldn't carry a Camel back. It makes transitions cumbersome. In addition, the Xterra usually has punishing terrain. Especially the bike leg. I wouldn't want to carry the extra weight. I would take a water bottle on your bike and also rely on the aid stations. Definately take an extra tube. I saw lots of unprepared racers carrying their bikes! Have fun.
