My last race for the 2008 season was August 17th. I was happy when the season came to an end with the training and racing. I just got done looking at some pictures from a race and now I’m going through withdrawal symptoms! That’s all I wanted to say :)

The Tri season might be over but with the 5K/10K season picking up this is a great time to work on running.

I still have a tri yet, so no withdrawl here, but soon I will feel your pain...the race is this weekend

I second Trilosophers advice...plenty of good running to be doing. I have a marathon at the end of October to look forward to. After that tough, it will all be looking ahead to next year.

I do look forward to getting into the gym again. I haven't lifted weights since April.

The 5k I did two weeks ago felt great. I really missed the racing atmosphere. After my half mary in 2 and half weeks I'll be in the gym as well. I've lost 15 lbs since March that I'd like to build back.

Oh come on, the off season is great! Those long low intensity workouts. relax... almost like it's recreational and not an obsession.

I'm going through the same thing. Unfortunately my season ended early with injury so the only thing I can do is swim. Everytime I look at my running shoes or bike I get that itch to hit the road for a few hours. Although I am enjoying sleeping in, eating whatever I want, actually drinking beer, and playing video games. Bad part is my wife likes this version of me better than the tri-addict I was all summer.

+1 to that!
I'm doing a marathon on Sunday and the going to start working on my short distance speed. I will miss the endurance but am looking forward to a change in training.

I have a marathon on sunday and am PUMPED to get back to my LSD bike rides and short intense runs. I have some serious goals for next season and I'm ready to hop on them. 1 more week...

I'm actually not done with tris yet either -- trying to make the most of my move from Chicago to Florida with a couple October races. Then I'll get training for a winter marathon (and I won't have to eat snow to keep hydrated on my long runs this year!).

Another piece of advice for off-season blues is to sign up for an '09 race. Having a more tangible idea of what next year's season will look like can do wonders for off-season motivation (or enhance your guilt for being lazy in the winter).

I feel the same way and it is so weird. After training for 9 months hard I thought I would love some down time and being able to exercise like a "normal" person, but it sucks! I don't get that same endorphin rush from working out like I used to... what are we supposed to do??

Drink lots of beer and watch lots of football, it numbs the pain.

I'll be doing my first and last tri of the season Nov. 9th! Haha Ultra's took up my time early in the season. But I'm getting psyched for the upcoming HIM!

Enjoy some down for awhile...you've earned it! Do something non-triathlon. I like rollerblading in the "off season" :)

My end of 2008 season is December 31st, The beginning of my 2009 season is January 31st.
I do tris in late spring thru early fall. I am swimming all year round, and I run all year as well.

I still have several more marathons and an ultra this year, and then it will be time to start next year ;-)

I do have a 5k this weekend as part of the Twin Cities Marathon. I think that'll help the itch. Also have a 5k for Turkey Day and the middle of December.

I have been enjoying the beer. I actually had an entire bottle of wine watching the Twins game last night. I'm not sure if I was trying to drown my sorrows or if I just lost track :)

I think part of the itch is I haven't been able to sign up for a 2009 race as Trilosopher suggested because of my twins on the way.

It's kind of a balancing act between overdoing it vs. racing little enough to remain hungry and inspired. If you're experiencing withdrawls, you likely didn't race enough. Maybe you can substitute other activities to ease the Jones you're undergoing.

no off season!! my last tri for the year is Nov.9th (my 1st HIM), then a 30k in Dec., my 1st marathon in January and then a posiibly HIM in April. Feb and March I will be getting reacquainted with long rides on my bike- (the one reason I love Houston)

Sadly, my "race" season was over about a month and a half ago because of work and other time demands. I've been doing serious strength and flexibility training, for my off-season, and I keep looking at my bike longingly... I do miss regular training, for sure...

The thing that got me was seeing the pictures of the runners and the pain/fatigue that they were showing. I actually missed that feeling! Looking forward to the 5ks and some of the indoor triathlons that start here in Minnesota in February.

Off season is where i reconnect with the family and focus on things THEY want to do. HINT: and it's usually not training, volunteering, or watching me/others race.

Just kidding.

Yeah all LSD Zone1-2 and strength work. Half Marathon in a couple of weeks and planning out '09 races.

cheers

I agree, I'm looking forward to getting past my marathon this weekend so I can start preparing for my HIM in April. This is going to be a winter of pain and suffering. I want to kill that race and start next year in tippity top shape. Off season... it's a made up word in triathlon.

I agree. My wife is incredible about all the training that I do and she makes it to EVERY race I do. I give her these months to do the apple picking, looking at furniture, shopping, you know all the "FUN" stuff :) If I didn't give her an off season I'd be in the dog house.

Off Season?!?!??!?! This is the start of the season haha. Seriously this is the time in Tucson when it is easiest to go on long bike rides, long runs what ever. The 110+ days are over and here come the 40-60 degree days, woohoo!

Great I will let you know estimated time of arrival and where to meet up. I need to see where the team is holding the pasta party. I'm staying on my own and driving to Phoenix Saturday night to be ready to cheer for IM AZ on Sunday with friends.

I will know more next week. I won't meet with the team this week, my son has two baseball games smack int he middle of Saturday.
